Our next adventure is to Fraser Island early September for 4 magical days
✨𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰....
K’gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, is a World Heritage-listed sand island located off Queensland’s south-eastern coast in the Wide Bay–Burnett region. About 250 km north of Brisbane, it falls within the Fraser Coast Regional Council area.
The World Heritage listing covers not only the island itself but also its surrounding waters and parts of the adjacent mainland, which together form the Great Sandy National Park. According to the 2021 census, K’gari has a population of 152, while up to 500,000 visitors travel there each year.

The island is part of the traditional lands of the Butchulla people, who have long known it as "K’gari." European settlers renamed it Fraser Island in 1847, after Captain James Fraser of the Stirling Castle, who was shipwrecked and died there in August 1836.
On 7 June 2023, the Queensland Government officially restored the island’s traditional name, K’gari.

🔹Friday, we said goodbye to the stunning Cobbold Gorge and made our way to Undara National Park. After arriving at the Lava Lodge, tucked away in beautiful tropical savannah woodlands, we enjoyed lunch and had some time to relax and settle in before the afternoon’s adventure.
Later in the day, we joined the Explorer Tour, a small group experience led by a local Savannah Guide. Along the way, they pointed out fascinating natural, geological, and historical features before we reached the incredible Lava Tubes. Formed more than a million years ago, these tubes are among the oldest and best-preserved in the world.

🔹Saturday was our final full day on tour, and we made the most of it by soaking up the lush, green scenery as we travelled back to Cairns. With a few comfort stops along the way, we arrived mid-afternoon, checked into our accommodation, and took some time to freshen up before the evening’s special outing.

As the sun set, we boarded the Spirit of Cairns for a magical dinner cruise on the tranquil Trinity Inlet. With delicious food, calm waters, and a relaxed atmosphere, it was a wonderful and memorable way to end our incredible journey through this unforgettable part of Australia.

🔹Wednesday we travelled to Normanton to board the iconic Gulflander Train, a nostalgic journey through wetlands, grasslands, and savannah, described as going "from nowhere to nowhere." Along the way, our guide entertained us with quirky stories and local trivia. At Critters Cams, our coach took us to the historic gold mining town of Croydon. Continuing on, we passed through Georgetown before turning off the main road to reach Forsayth and, 45 km further, the remote and scenic Cobbold Gorge, located on Robin Hood Cattle Station amidst striking sandstone formations in the heart of the Gulf Savannah.

🔹Thursday was all about experiencing the natural beauty of Cobbold Gorge. Aboard a custom-built, electric-powered boat, we glide silently through the narrow gorge, with its towering, sheer rock walls, keeping an eye out for freshwater crocodiles! This serene and spectacular cruise is sure to be a trip highlight. After lunch at the Village, we dove deeper into outback life with an insider’s tour of Robin Hood Station, offering a genuine glimpse into life on a working cattle station in Far North Queensland.

🕰Back in the late 1800s, Texas Longhorns were the backbone of the Old West—tough, hardy cattle that helped pull Texas through hard times. And from that grit and dust, the legend of the cowboy was born. You’ve seen the movies… we got to see where it all began.

🐂These mighty steers aren’t just big—they’re Texas big. Some have horns stretching over 100 inches from tip to tip. And then there’s JR, a former Guinness World Record holder, whose horns reach a jaw-dropping 10 feet 4 inches (3.15m). Seeing them in person? That’s something you won’t forget.

🇳🇿Folks say “Everything’s bigger in Texas,” but out here at Texas Longhorn Tours you’ll find that sometimes… things are even bigger in Queensland.

🌅Situated on Leahton Park - a lovely family owned property just 10km from the famous gold town of Charters Towers in North Queensland, Texas Longhorn Tours is a 'must do' when visiting the area.
It’s a slice of the Old West with a good dose of Aussie heart.❤️

🔹The city of 𝐌𝐭 𝐈𝐬𝐚 was inhabited by the Kalkadoon and Indjilandji people, whose livelihood depended on hunting and gathering, fishing and trade for several thousands of years, before the European settlers arrived here. The Kalkadoon craftsmen were known for their stone implements and handmade tools which were traded with other Aboriginal groups spread all over the western Queensland.

🔸On Sunday we are discovering 𝐌𝐭 𝐈𝐬𝐚'𝐬 Outback Spirit immersing ourselves in the vibrant outback town.
Our adventure will begin at the Outback at Isa complex, where we descend into the depths of the Hard Times Mine on a thrilling underground tour. Guided by a seasoned miner, we ride the Alamac cage into the tunnels, suited up in protective gear, complete with cap and lamp, we explore the gritty realities of life below the surface.

Back above ground, we will enjoy a well-earned lunch and dive into a hub of discovery. The complex offers a rich array of experiences, from the captivating Laboratory Tours at the Riversleigh Fossil Centre to thought-provoking exhibitions in the onsite gallery, a true one-stop destination for outback culture and science.
