That sound is one of the tell-tale signs that a humpback whale has surfaced nearby.

Whales breathe through blowholes on top of their heads. When they come to the surface, they forcefully exhale the warm, moist air from their lungs, creating the visible plume we call a “blow”.

Out on the water, that first breath can be the moment you realise a whale is right there 🫣😉
