The mastermind is one of the most effective tools available for solving a business or personal challenge fast. When the room is right and the time is held properly, eight minutes of structured peer input can move something that has been stuck for months.

The format has been used by some of the most effective leaders and communities in the world, across industries and generations.

Neuroscience explains why the format works at a biological level. When you help someone solve a real problem, the brain releases dopamine, the reward signal tied to motivation and learning. Being trusted with another person's challenge triggers oxytocin simultaneously, the hormone most associated with bonding, cooperation and trust. Serotonin builds as confidence follows contribution. This is why people leave a well-run mastermind session feeling different about the people in the room, not just the problem they brought in.
What determines the outcome is who is in the room and how the time is held.

Our team has run over 50 mastermind sessions over the past few years. We have watched people walk into a room as strangers and walk out as business partners, collaborators and friends they will keep for the rest of their lives. That shift happens in hours, sometimes less. It does not happen because of the format. It happens because the format creates the conditions for something that most professional environments never allow: the experience of being genuinely helped by someone who has nothing to gain from helping you, and of genuinely helping someone you met this morning.

We also train facilitators, because a mastermind session is only as good as the person holding the time and the room.

Want us to host a free session and show you how to facilitate effective mastermind sessions for your community, your teams or your clients? Drop a comment or send us a message.

When did you last sit in one? Tell us where and what shifted.

Chicago has a certain energy you can’t replicate.

A city where business, culture, and architecture come together in a way that naturally brings people closer, sharper, and more aligned.

This is why it works so well for leadership retreats, offsites, and high-level gatherings.

And this June, we’re bringing it to life with two experiences in Chicago.

If you’ve been thinking about your next destination, this might be it.

Chicago is not a city you simply visit. It is a city you feel. From the moment you arrive, there is an unmistakable sense of movement, ambition, and possibility. It is bold without trying too hard, historic without feeling stuck in the past, and energetic in a way that quietly pushes you to think bi...

77% of adults aged 35 to 54 say they want to return to a time before the internet and smartphones. 63% of 18 to 34 year olds said the same. The Global Wellness Institute named Analog Wellness the number-one global wellness trend for 2025.

A Harvard physician named it popcorn brain: a brain so conditioned by rapid digital stimulation that slower activities feel intolerable. A 2022 Munich study found 10 minutes of TikTok caused a 40% drop in memory accuracy.

Australia became the first country to ban social media for children under 16 in December 2025. 4.7 million accounts were removed in the first weeks. France passed a similar bill with 116 votes to 23. Denmark, Spain, Malaysia and Germany are following.

A 29-year-old Stanford graduate sold $789,000 worth of Bluetooth rotary phones in 2025, because people want to take calls without looking at a screen. YONDR has now locked 20 million phones at concerts, schools and corporate events across 27 countries.

Adrian Zecha founded Aman Resorts in 1988 on the idea that the most valuable thing you can offer a person is space, quiet and the absence of noise. He just opened a 24-room farm retreat in rural Japan at 93. His philosophy unchanged.

Holt-Lunstad's research found that strong social bonds increase survival odds by 50%. Four days in an unusual environment away from screens produces a 47% improvement in creative problem-solving.
The world is not rejecting technology. It is rejecting what technology did to attention, to presence and to the quality of being somewhere with another person.

Look at this image: people running on an ocean shore with surfboards, laughing. Neurologically, quite a lot is happening.

Physical activity releases dopamine through the brain's mesolimbic reward system. It elevates BDNF, the protein that drives the growth of new neurons in the hippocampus, the region handling memory, learning and spatial awareness. Research in the Journal of Neuroscience found that voluntary exercise increases both BDNF and dopamine at a measurable neurochemical level.

When people move and play together in a new environment, oxytocin and dopamine fire at the same time. A 2024 study in Biomedicines confirmed they amplify each other through a feedback loop. Shared laughter reduces cortisol and releases endorphins. It is a neurobiological signal to the nervous system that the people around you are safe and that you can think clearly.

The Lancet published a major review in 2025 confirming that regular aerobic activity delays dementia onset, slows brain ageing and suppresses neuroinflammation. Over 55 million people live with dementia right now. Physical inactivity is a modifiable risk factor.

Now add what Robin Dunbar found. Humans evolved in tribes of 150. Inside that, tighter circles of 50 friends, 15 close friends and 5 who anchor you. Each ring is maintained by face-to-face contact. Remote work degrades those circles one ring at a time, slowly, until the trust is gone.

Gallup puts the annual cost of that disconnection at $8.9 trillion. One in five employees feels lonely at work every day.

Group chat is fifteen years old. The human brain is 200,000.

The people on that shoreline are not being unproductive. Their brains are doing the best work those brains will do all week.

There is a particular kind of tired that sets in after years of building something at full pace. You carry it so long it starts to feel normal. You only recognise it once it's gone.

After years of the corporate grind, multiple businesses and having just watched a startup she cofounded sell for AU$67 million, our founder and CEO, Belinda Bradford, got on a surfboard. No plan. Just waves. She ended up on a surf break in Australia, where she met Serena Adams, one of the world's best female surf coaches, who was already running surf trips for women.

Belinda watched what happened in those groups and recognised something immediately. Women who had never surfed before were paddling into the ocean, visibly terrified, and coming back to shore as different people. The thing that changed them had nothing to do with technique. They had done something genuinely hard, together, in a place that had absolutely no interest in their business or their title or even how much money they had in the bank. That is a specific kind of experience. She knew organisations spent extraordinary amounts of money trying to replicate it in conference rooms, and it almost never worked.

Surf Getaways was born. It became Woman Explore, because the women who came for the waves kept wanting more: adventures that took their breath away, cultures that shifted how they saw everything, the life they had quietly stopped asking for.

Then founders started showing up. And corporate teams. And industry networks that wanted a gathering people would actually travel for.

We are not just Belinda. We are a team of over 50 retreat creators, more than 1,000 alumni and hospitality partners, access to over 8,000 venues worldwide, and a network of experienced vendors and suppliers who can secure VIP access to any concert, performance or show on the planet.
