Lavender Bay wharf officially opened on 29 April 1893 as part of the North Shore ferry terminal, serving as a busy commuter crossing to Circular Quay before the Harbour Bridge changed everything.

When the bridge opened in 1932, annual ferry patronage across the harbour dropped from 40 million to 15 million, and Lavender Bay eventually lost its regular ferry service altogether.

The wharf still stands, now used only by private vessels, and that heritage timber shelter with the “Lavender Bay” sign is what remains of one of Sydney’s busiest pre-bridge commuter routes.

This is one of my favourite small bars hidden in the historic rocks check this one out next time your in the historic rocks it’s intimate and it has a fascinating past it’s a real hidden gem in Sydney

Down this set of stairs you’ll find a basement bar with the richest history in all of Sydney.

This building in The Rocks has been A LOT of things since 1844.

It started as the American Hotel, run by an ex-convict named Abraham Levy who’d been transported for life for picking a pocket in London.

It served American whaling ships, hid sailors who’d jumped ship to chase the gold rush, and at various points housed a bootmaker, a doctor’s surgery, a gambling house and an o***m den 🤯

The name “doss house” comes from its days as a cheap overnight shelter; homeless men, prostitutes and drunks would pay a shilling to sleep by a fireplace for the night.

Today it’s one of Sydney’s best whisky bars, with the original sandstone walls, fireplaces and 150+ whiskies still very much intact 👏🏼
