Refurbishing a boat for the millionth time doesn't feel so bad on days where the wind outside is blowing the dog off a chain. Testing out my back injury today and so far so good.

Hi everyone, just an update, 2026 charters for Barra is now fully booked out. I have no further dates available for this season.

Bookings open for them from February 2027.

Tournament entries are now closed. We have 49 boats. Four days of fishing. One very special anniversary tournament celebrating six decades of history.

Well im doing a thing!

Ever so grateful to be presented the opportunity to join a team and compete in the Cairns 60th anniversary Heavy Tackle Black Marlin Tournament in September this year on my brothers boat "Mood Swings". Now for me, given how life got so busy, this is something ive never really done before and decided that this year im doing this as a part of a 50th birthday present to this old codger!! 😆

The last time I ever entered a fishing comp, was the Giru Barra fishing comp when I was 12!.

The question has popped up to me many times from clients on charter over the years if ive ever caught a giant Black Marlin. So now as im not getting any younger, its time to stop putting things off and do this!!. With just one more crew member to finalise, and preparation under way, things are starting to get real.
No matter the outcome, it will be a fun event, even if we dont raise that 1000lber!!. Will be a lot of laughs and also learn a lot in the 4 days fishing thats for sure!!!.

Something to keep me excited and look forward to while refitting my Barra boat. 😃

Definatly some brownie points for Tara's hubby Justin whom arranged a trip out as her birthday present. Taking home a few nice Barras, a lovely 60cm fingermark and a good size Jack to make the trifecta!.

Whats better than one Garmin Kraken?......Two Garmin krakens!!!.

End of an era of Motorguide spot lock motors for me today, this one has served me 4 years of commercial use on the barra punt being plowed into mud, oyster covered rocks, constant sun and salt water exposure, and the occasional chew on from large bullsharks. While they always had their niggling little issues, they weren't too bad when it comes down to bang per buck!
