And one of my most favourite inshore species.. the humble old Thready at 90cm!

Definatly some brownie points for Tara's hubby Justin whom arranged a trip out as her birthday present. Taking home a few nice Barras, a lovely 60cm fingermark and a good size Jack to make the trifecta!.

Whats better than one Garmin Kraken?......Two Garmin krakens!!!.

End of an era of Motorguide spot lock motors for me today, this one has served me 4 years of commercial use on the barra punt being plowed into mud, oyster covered rocks, constant sun and salt water exposure, and the occasional chew on from large bullsharks. While they always had their niggling little issues, they weren't too bad when it comes down to bang per buck!

Big thanks to Stoney Creek boatworks for organising it for me being a Garmin dealer.

Havent stretched my legs in a while. First day of open Barra season and honestly first day for me being back on the briney for a while. So 4m king tides was on the menu and calm conditions made it good for some coastal exploring. While a lot I looked at was a bit disappointing, there was some really cool stuff I found that i figure will work great in the upcoming winter months. However I folded back to a known spot of mine on that start of run out tide and worked some pretty cool back waters.
Only a short bite window but ill take the 6 Barra bites on just legal fish. Then home just after lunch as soon as I seen the opportunity was over for the day.

While i picked up my new custom spin stick last week, i spoke to Ron Farren from Salty Dog Custom Rods about if he could come up with a neat Garmin kraken remote cradle. One that wont rattle or shake out, and also that the lanyard wraps around the base quite neatly keeping it tucked away. Have to say im impressed and makes a nice little addition to any boat using Garmin trolling motors. Can be mounted on any flat surface.

Get in contact with him via message on his page if you would like to purchase one.

Im off to prepare for a Barra trip... 🤩

While im enjoying some much needed time off, there is always things to catch up on besides the boats. Ive put off a skin check now for a little too long and was a big relief that I still have the all clear with Melanoma and other skin spots. I would suggest at least getting checked once a year or if you notice sudden changes in your sun spots...by your GP or by a dedicated skin specialist centre such as the lovely people at the North Queensland Skin Centre for a full head to toe check up. Particularly if you spent a long time in the sun such as i have. Ive had far too many people in my life fallen victim to Melanoma and the best prevention is slip slop slap... cover up as much as you can and keep on top of early detection.

Fitment complete on the big Garmin trolling motor. Just got some minor wiring and battery choices to make and then the anchor becomes an ornament!.

Also purchased an Oceansouth motor cover. Seeing these electric trolling motors are becoming far more expensive these days, a minor cost for a cover to protect from the elements is a no brainer. Handy for boats that spend a lot of time in the sun when not used, or perhaps when spending days trolling offshore and having no need to use it. Should help the longevity for your investment.

They can be purchased alongside Garmin and Seakeeper products from Steve at Stoney creek boatworks who can sort what ever you need. Also handy if your getting one of these boats built having all the accessories you purchase supplied in house during construction.
