Every season brings something different to Mostar, but early autumn may be one of the best times to experience the city. The summer sun remains, the intense heat begins to ease, and the crowds thin just enough to leave a little more room to wander. Still, Kujundžiluk remains lively, filled with visitors making their way through the Old Town.

Among the crowds, conversations and footsteps, a simple message: don’t forget.

Mostar is famous for its sunshine... but this week, the heat has also arrived!

With extreme heat in the forecast, remember to:

💧 Bring a refillable water bottle with you on tour - Mostar’s public fountains provide fresh, cold drinking water.
🧴 Wear sunscreen and a hat.
🌳 Explore during the coolest parts of the day.
🌊 Take a break by the rivers! Whether you’re relaxing at a riverside café or simply finding a shady spot near the water, the river creates its own welcome pocket of cool air.

Our summer time temperatures are one reason our Original Sheva Walking Tour departs at 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM, with our shorter tour at 11 AM. These are times at which it is much more comfortable to wander the city’s streets and discover its history.

History is rarely confined to museums or monuments—it is written into the streets we walk every day.

Ševko spent a fantastic day with a visiting group from the UK’s Royal Army Physical Training Corps, exploring not only Mostar’s iconic Old Town but also the neighborhoods and public spaces that reveal the city’s more recent past. Together they examined the dissolution of Yugoslavia, the 1990s war, and the challenges of rebuilding a divided city.

Combining historical context with his own lived experience, Ševko offered a perspective that connects national events with the realities of everyday life in Mostar.

Thank you for your curiosity, your thoughtful discussion, and your willingness to engage with a complex history. Conversations like these remind us why sharing Mostar’s story matters.

Our guests began in the UNESCO designated Old Town area with a stop at Badžak’s coppersmith workshop, discovering a centuries-old craft and the stories, symbols, and cultural traditions preserved in every piece of handmade copperwork. The tour concluded at Šehitluci, where Sheva shared his personal perspective on the social and political landscape of Mostar and Bosnia and Herzegovina today.

While higher water levels and seasonal flooding are part of the river’s natural cycle, the conditions we are experiencing right now are extreme and stand in stark contrast to the calmer, familiar scenes many visitors are used to seeing. Built during the Austro-Hungarian period as the Officer’s Casino, this structure later became the JNA’s “Army House”, and in recent years has stood as a silent witness to the city’s transformation following independence.
