Mostar and its surroundings is home to a wide range of sites, activities, and attractions that could keep you enthralled for days, but we always recommend starting your explorations with a walking tour. Understanding our history, culture, and traditions will lead to a better appreciation and understanding of all that you will encounter on your visit.

For those of our guests who are interested in Mostar’s earliest appearance in the history books, we recommend Sheva’s Heart of Mostar Walking Tour. On this tour you will explore the cobblestone pathways of Mostar’s Old Town and UNESCO World Heritage Zone, focusing on our Ottoman past.

There are two ways to join us in the Heart of Mostar during your visit! Join us on one of our tip-based group tours at 12 Noon or 7 PM or schedule a private tour with us. We were delighted to welcome Sara back to Mostar with Alberto. Sara had last been in Mostar following the wars 30 years ago when she contributed to humanitarian aid efforts in the community. This is when Sara first met Ševko.

On this visit, Sara returned to Mostar as friend and traveler, not only renewing personal ties from so many years ago, but experiencing the vibrancy of Mostar today and the transformation it has undergone in the last decades. A meaningful conversation over dinner and private tour of Mostar (in Italian) highlighted the changes which have taken place over the years and the challenges we are still overcoming today.

Mostar is vibrancy. There is a radiance that is unique to our city streets. Ivo Andrić famously spoke about the light of Mostar waking one up in the morning…and it does. But it is the undulating changes of the light and its colors that will draw you away from your window and down to the city streets to explore. These colors will pull you along, day after day. The landscape is never experienced quite the same way twice. With the shifting light, gathering clounds, and changing seasons, the colors ebb and flow, but always beckon to the beholder to continue along their path of discovery.

Adding to color is the artwork that graces our city streets and walls, contributing layers of meaning embedded in the local landscape. Like the light, it shifts and changes over time. Often ephemeral in nature, the massive murals that make up the city’s outdoor exhibition changes, whether through new and overlapping artistic interventions, urban development, or the gradual removal of the chosen medium by natural elements.

We are just over only one week into the new year, and we have already welcomed many guests to Mostar! The group in this photo just happens to be from our first tour of 2025. Even better, one of our guests on New Year’s Day had already joined Sheva Walking Tours on a previous visit and decided to return to Mostar once again with her friends. Whether solo or in the company of additional friends and family, we love having the opportunity to welcome guests back to town! In addition to exploring the history and culture of Mostar, our tours include our favorite anecdotes and stories about Mostar and provide you with an insider’s perspective on food and entertainment that should not be missed while you are in town!

Sheva’s Free Walking Tour of Mostar was inspired by the stories and history Ševko (head guide and owner) shared with his partner who relocated to Mostar permanently from the U.S. The tour developed in response to what we felt was a gap in the walking tours offered to visitors in Mostar, many of which do not directly address the recent events of the last three decades or discuss today’s socio-political context in a critical and informed manner.

Sheva’s Free Walking Tour operates year-round and provides an affordable opportunity for both groups and individuals of all ages and backgrounds to come together to encounter Mostar from a local perspective. We believe it is essential to provide a tour that does not erase Mostar’s difficult past and instead, contextualizes it so that you can better understand not only what occurred in Mostar, but what locals have experienced. The best way to understand Mostar’s present, is to understand the region’s history.

We strive to create a unique experience during each tour that responds to guests individual interest and questions about Mostar and the wider region. We won’t shy away from difficult questions or topics and because we are independently operated, our tours are not scripted. We do not have any personal political motivation – our only agenda is to leave you with a well-rounded understanding of Mostar’s past, present and future through a compelling 2 hour tour. Because of Mostar’s recent tumultuous history, we believe it is our responsibility to provide our guests a well-balanced and objective perspective while also retaining our personal approach.
