DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM HOSTS THIRD STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP ON THE BOTSWANA TOURISM STATISTICS DASHBOARD

The Department of Tourism, in partnership with JICA Botswana, hosted its third build-up workshop at Cresta President Hotel, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss progress in developing the Botswana Tourism Statistics Dashboard (BTSD).

The BTSD is a key digital tool aimed at consolidating tourism data from various sources into one central, interactive platform. It is expected to support real-time tracking of tourism trends, inform policy decisions, and guide strategic investments in the sector.
Opening the workshop, Mr. Raymond Tsheko, Transformation Office Coordinator at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, emphasised the urgent need for accurate and reliable data to support sound policy-making and promote transparency.

In closing, Ms. Maureen Tshebo, on behalf of the Acting Director of Tourism, thanked participants for their valuable contributions. She encouraged continued collaboration and timely submission of data to ensure the dashboard remains relevant, reliable, and impactful.
She stressed that the success of the BTSD will depend on the quality and completeness of the data received from stakeholders. “With credible data, we can make better decisions, target the right markets, and grow our tourism sector sustainably,” she said.
The Department reaffirmed its commitment to building a robust dashboard that promotes data-driven tourism development and enhances sector performance for the benefit of all.
