Breakfast around the fire in the middle of the bush is one of my favourite times of day, and one I always wish could last a little longer.

A cup of tea, delicious breakfast, beautiful sunrise and sounds of the wilderness, all with that exciting feeling of the anticipation of what the day might have in store.

Remembering Mr.P: We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our much-loved team member, Njipe Poloko, affectionately known as Mr. P, P-Man or Makumbi.

Mr. P. was a part of the Golden Africa family for around 10 years, becoming a valued and highly respected member of the safari team. Kind, happy and jovial, he bought warmth to those around him. He was dedicated to his work, reliable and consistent. We not only valued the work he did, but the man he was.

The loss of Mr. P. has brought shock and a great deal of sorrow to the team, and his presence within the Golden Africa family will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those that loved him.

P-man; thank you for the years you shared with us, the fond memories and funny stories you leave behind. You will be sorely missed by every single one of us at the Golden Africa team.

It isn’t about how close we get, or how many we see. It’s about watching animals behave naturally, giving them the space and respect they deserve, and remembering that we are simply visitors in their world.

Something we hope we never take for granted.

One journey through Botswana, with an extraordinary variety of wildlife along the way.

One of the highlights of traveling across different areas of Botswana is just how much can change as you move between different habitats. The landscape changes, the wildlife changes, and each area brings something different and unique to your journey.

For us, that’s an important part of designing a safari. It’s not about fitting as many places as possible into an itinerary, but choosing areas that complement one another, considering the season, and allowing enough time to properly experience each one.

Wildlife can, of course, never be guaranteed but combine different habitats with the right time of year and enough time in each area, and the potential for variety can be remarkable.

From leopards and lions to bat-eared foxes, mongoose, oryx and everything in between – these are just a few of the encounters from one journey through Botswana.

Luxury Roving or Expedition Camp? Which is right for you?

Both our camps are fully mobile, creating a private bush home in some of Botswana’s most beautiful wilderness areas. Whichever you choose, our core values remain the same: experienced guiding; carefully considered locations; delicious food; warm hospitality; and attention to detail.

The difference comes down to how you want your safari to feel.

Our Luxury Roving Camp is for those who want to fell immersed in the heart of the wilderness under canvas, but don’t want to forgo the little luxuries. With super king-size beds, en suite bathrooms with flush loos, and a dedicated chill area to relax peacefully in the afternoon before high tea, the Roving Camp offers a little more space and comfort – a wonderfully relaxing place to return to after a day exploring the wilderness.

Our Expedition Camp is for those who believe that sometimes having less between you and the wilderness is exactly the point. It is intentionally simpler. The tents are smaller than our Roving tents, but still comfortable; the bathrooms are simpler, en suite and outdoors– there is something quite special about showering beneath the African sky. The overall experience is a little more adventurous and a little closer to the traditional spirit of safari.

Neither changes what matters most: where you are, who you’re with, and what is waiting beyond the canvas.

It’s simply a case of which experience feels right for you.

Some of our most memorable sightings over the years have come from one of Africa’s most endangered predators.

The African Wild Dog has a way of creating some of the most thrilling and unpredictable moments on safari.

Perhaps because they have “dog” in their name, with all the familiarity that brings, they can sometimes be overlooked in favor of Africa’s more iconic predators. But spend a little time with this fascinating species and it’s difficult not to be captivated by them.

Curious, highly social and remarkably intelligent, charismatic, and fiercely devoted to their pack. Their complex communication, close family bonds and extraordinary teamwork make every encounter unique and special.

So on world African Wild Dog Day, we celebrate a species that deserves every bit of attention it gets, and more!
