Luxury Roving or Expedition Camp? Which is right for you?

Both our camps are fully mobile, creating a private bush home in some of Botswana’s most beautiful wilderness areas. Whichever you choose, our core values remain the same: experienced guiding; carefully considered locations; delicious food; warm hospitality; and attention to detail.

The difference comes down to how you want your safari to feel.

Our Luxury Roving Camp is for those who want to fell immersed in the heart of the wilderness under canvas, but don’t want to forgo the little luxuries. With super king-size beds, en suite bathrooms with flush loos, and a dedicated chill area to relax peacefully in the afternoon before high tea, the Roving Camp offers a little more space and comfort – a wonderfully relaxing place to return to after a day exploring the wilderness.

Our Expedition Camp is for those who believe that sometimes having less between you and the wilderness is exactly the point. It is intentionally simpler. The tents are smaller than our Roving tents, but still comfortable; the bathrooms are simpler, en suite and outdoors– there is something quite special about showering beneath the African sky. The overall experience is a little more adventurous and a little closer to the traditional spirit of safari.

Neither changes what matters most: where you are, who you’re with, and what is waiting beyond the canvas.

It’s simply a case of which experience feels right for you.

Some of our most memorable sightings over the years have come from one of Africa’s most endangered predators.

The African Wild Dog has a way of creating some of the most thrilling and unpredictable moments on safari.

Perhaps because they have “dog” in their name, with all the familiarity that brings, they can sometimes be overlooked in favor of Africa’s more iconic predators. But spend a little time with this fascinating species and it’s difficult not to be captivated by them.

Curious, highly social and remarkably intelligent, charismatic, and fiercely devoted to their pack. Their complex communication, close family bonds and extraordinary teamwork make every encounter unique and special.

So on world African Wild Dog Day, we celebrate a species that deserves every bit of attention it gets, and more!

Sometimes the sightings come to you; a beautiful reminder of what it means to stay in the heart of the wilderness.

At the edge of camp, this herd of elephants moved slowly across the floodplain, giving guests the privilege of quietly photographing them in the last golden light of the day.

Every choice in the refresh of our Luxury Roving Camp has been with the intention that, after a day, exploring the Delta, you’ll return to a space that feels warm, welcoming, and effortlessly relaxing.

A place to simply feel at home.

This project has been very close to my heart. I wanted every corner of camp to feel considered; not just beautiful to look at, but comfortable, calming, and in harmony with the wilderness we are so fortunate to call home. Most importantly, we wanted to enhance the comfort of camp without losing that deep connection to the wilderness that only a truly Mobile Safari can offer.

Inspired by my love of the palms in one of our favourite corners of Moremi, we’ve introduced soft, natural textures, greens that reflect the landscape beyond your canvas home, and touches of yellow – a personal favourite of mine that I believe brings warmth and joy.

Alongside the soft finishes, we’ve made practical changes too. New mesh windows bring in more natural light and airflow, particularly during Botswana‘s warmer months; curtains at the front of each tent offer greater privacy, and larger bathroom mirrors create a brighter, more spacious feel.

As someone who spends so much time in the bush, I know how important it is to have somewhere that invites you to slow down. Somewhere that offers the perfect balance of comfort and simplicity, where you can feel completely at home while remaining deeply immersed in the wilderness around you, and where the comfort of our beds gives you a deep and peaceful nights sleep.

Home has always been at the heart of Golden Africa. We hope, from the moment you arrive, you’ll feel it too.
