Remembering some of the highlights from our 2022 season including running a full day survival group training for the Banff Lodging Company! Thanks B.LC and we were so happy that it was such a successful day! We did some basic survival shelter building and survival fire practice.

A survival boil off challenge. The idea is for each team to start from scratch and try to get their fire and pot of water boiling first. Although the gentlemen's team was ahead initially it was actually the ladies team who got their water boiling first!!😅

Doing some early season bike scouting for the return of our 2022 Best of the west Mountain bike tour. This two week trip highlights some of the best mountain biking locations from the Rockies to the West coast. Having an awesome time hitting some early season biking in the Nakusp area!

Our new summer survival courses dates for 2022 are up and ready to go! We are looking forward to having tons of people come out again this summer to learn some great outdoor and bushcraft survival skills. Our one day survival clinic introduces participants to the fundamentals of survival skills in the Canadian outdoors. Our emphasis is on providing as much info in a day as possible. This course will focuses on theoretical knowledge as well as practical application of skills.

Having often read about giant puffballs (Calvatia gigantea) in many different field guides and foraged myself for mushrooms over countless years, I have finally encountered this incredible mushroom type! Originally thinking they were some sort of ball or garbage left behind in the forest, I have seldomly been so excited after a day of mushroom picking. Giant puffballs are great, fried in butter, crumbed and fired, or dried. In western Canada I have found them in patches and up to the size of giant marbles. These were as big as large footballs and were found in Ontario around the Ottawa area in October! happy mushroom hunting.

In light that today September 30th is the national day for truth and reconciliation, all of us at the C.W.S.X and Bow Valley Canyon Tours would like to acknowledge that many of the incredible trips and experiences we undertake, we undertake on the traditional lands of the Iyarhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda) and Ktunaxa (Kootenay) Nations. We also acknowledge and will continue our effort to keep on learning about the trauma and effects of both residential school and colonisation on all first nations people. To our best abilities we will also continue to respect and protect these incredible traditional lands in which we undertake our trips and experiences for the continued preservation of all future generations.
