On September 11, we pause to remember the thousands of innocent lives lost in the tragic attacks of 9/11 and honour the families and communities forever changed by that day.

In the midst of unimaginable sorrow and uncertainty, Newfoundland and Labrador showed the world the power of kindness. When thousands of stranded passengers arrived unexpectedly and communities, residents opened their homes, schools, churches, and hearts to complete strangers.

From Gander to Appleton, Lewisporte, Glenwood, Norris Arm, Gambo, Grand Falls-Windsor, and communities throughout the province, volunteers offered food, shelter, clothing, comfort, and friendship. Their selfless acts transformed a moment of crisis into a lasting reminder that even in the darkest times, humanity shines brightest through compassion.

Today, we remember those we lost, honour those affected, and reflect on the enduring legacy of kindness that emerged from tragedy.
