💚 HOW LUCKY ARE WE?!

This week I once again managed to combine a work trip scouting for a race with an adventure with my boys.

Last year, scouting for World Champs took my partner and me into some pretty incredible untouched places, which my kids eventually got to experience during the race. This time I thought… why wait for the race?

Why not bring them along for the discovery part?

While I did some of the slightly less exciting work of checking transition areas, access points and logistics, they could hit the bike parks with their friends. Everybody wins. 🙌

Now, I won’t lie. One adult taking four teenage boys camping - with four mountain bikes and all the gear that goes with them - for a week is… an undertaking.

But they wanted to be there so badly that they pulled their weight. They set up camp, loaded bikes, packed up wet gear, helped with meals and did their best to keep the mud out of the vehicle. Their best. 🫣😂

More than anything, they were just so pumped to be there.

Their energy was contagious.

And somewhere between the work, the camping chaos, the muddy gear and shuttling four teenagers and their bikes around, I was reminded of the power of simply making these things happen.

Did bringing them add work to my work week? Absolutely.

Was it worth it? Every single bit.

They added a whole lot more stoke to Revelstoke, shined a little extra silver into SilverStar, explored somewhere new with their friends… and I got a captive audience for my mom jokes all week. 😂

I’ll call that a win.

Thanks for exploring this stunning province with me, boys. Keep saying yes to the adventures, and I’ll keep finding ways to take you along.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING LOCAL 💚

Every booking means a little more to us this year.

Not because it's a transaction.

Because behind every local business are people.

People who answer the phones, guide the trips, load the bikes, drive the shuttles, maintain the equipment, pay the bills and somehow keep figuring things out when the world throws another curveball.

Hoodoo has been doing this since 2007, and there have certainly been a few curveballs along the way.

But we're still here.

Still finding ways to get people outside.

Still believing that adventure brings people together.

And still incredibly grateful every time someone chooses to spend their time - and their dollars - with a local business.

Here's your reminder to stop saying:

“We should do something together sometime.”

Pick the date.

Call your people.

Ride the trail. Paddle the lake. Go for the hike. Drink the beverage. Eat the food. Laugh until someone snorts. 😂

Because after the summer our communities have been through, I think we've all been reminded that 'sometime' isn't actually on the calendar.

September and October are beautiful here.

Make a day of it.

That's what we're here for.

Adventure shouldn't belong only to people with garages full of expensive equipment.

Rent what you need. Ask us where to go. Grab a shuttle. Join a tour. Try something you've never done before.

Not every adventure needs to be epic.

Sometimes you just need to put your phone away, lace up your shoes and walk somewhere beautiful.

To breathe.

To talk.

To be quiet.

To remember that we're incredibly fortunate to have all of this right outside our doors.

Our guided adventures aren't about rushing from point A to point B. They're about discovering the stories, landscapes and little places that make the Okanagan special.

Fall might just be the perfect time to come discover a few of them with us.

WE ADVENTURE BEFORE WE W**E 😉🍷🛶

Around here, harvest season deserves to be experienced properly.

Our version starts on the water.

Paddle the shoreline, soak in those incredible Okanagan views and earn your w**e before heading into w**e country.

Because we have one very important Hoodoo rule:

We always adventure before we w**e. 😉

Fall brings cooler paddling weather, beautiful light, harvest in the vineyards and a completely different feel to the valley than the height of summer.

Bring your favourite people and make a day of it.

After the summer we've had, spending an afternoon outside, laughing with good people and supporting local w**eries along the way sounds pretty darn good to us. 💚

A Rainy Day for Big Questions 📖🌧️

It's raining here today.

The kind of day that makes you slow down a little, look out the window, and reflect.

And lately, there seems to be so much for our children to try to make sense of.

Wildfires. Floods. Storms. Communities being changed in an instant. Things they see, hear and sometimes experience themselves… and questions that we, as adults, don't always have answers for either.

It's exactly where Where Are All the Answers? begins.

A child wanders through the world asking questions of the fire, the storm, the rainbow, the Earth and the mountains… slowly discovering that we can't always control what happens around us, and sometimes there simply isn't an answer that can make a difficult thing okay.

But we can talk about it.

We can look for what we've learned.

We can find the people who will walk beside us.

We can look for the light.

And we can discover the power we have in how we respond and what we put back into the world.

That's also why I included the Thoughtful Reflection pages at the end of the story - to help children and the adults who love them explore some of those bigger questions together.

Today seemed like the perfect day to share a few pages from inside. ❤️

FALL WAS MADE FOR THE KVR 🚲🍂

There is something about riding the Kettle Valley Railway in the fall.

The air gets cooler. The trail gets quieter. The colours begin to change. And somehow, without the rush of summer around you, you notice a little more.

The smell of the forest. The crunch under your tires. The views you've probably driven past a hundred times without really seeing.

Maybe that's something we could all use a little more of right now.

THERE’S STILL TIME TO ADVENTURE 💚

This summer didn't quite unfold the way any of us expected.

Like so many local businesses, we lost some important weeks of our season. But we're still here - and there is a whole lot of beautiful Okanagan adventuring still ahead.

In fact, September and October might be two of our favourite months to explore. Cooler days. Quieter trails. Harvest season. Fall colours. And a little more room to slow down and really appreciate where we live.

So if you've been meaning to have an adventure with us, we'd love to take you.

SHE’S STILL BEAUTIFUL 💚

It’s been a hard summer in the Okanagan.

There are places that look different. People who are hurting. Landscapes that will take time to heal.

But then you turn a corner, look up from the trail, paddle out onto the lake or catch the evening light on the mountains and remember...

She’s still beautiful.

And there is still so much of this place to explore, appreciate and protect.

We’re pretty lucky to call it home. 💚
