Somalia vs Somaliland: Two Worlds in the Horn of Africa.

Both territories share the same cultural code of the Horn, but the travel experience is quite different.

Mogadishu is the sea, a thousand-year-old trading port, a city once known as the White Pearl of the Indian Ocean. It’s opening back up now, for those willing to travel on someone else’s terms to reach a rare point on the map.

In Somaliland, you can just walk into town in the evening. At the market in Hargeisa, people buy camels. Outside the city is Laas Geel, rock art five thousand years old, only discovered in 2002. The country has its own currency and passport, yet is only recognised by one country.

Both destinations require solid organization, local assistance, and respect for the route.

We asked Shane , our founder, to talk openly about Afghanistan - what it takes to operate there and what you can expect.

We’ve been going multiple times per year for a while now, and hundreds of travellers have come through safely. That takes a strong local setup and no shortcuts.

Most people who join these trips have already done a lot of travelling. Afghanistan tends to attract the ones who aren’t satisfied with straightforward and easy.

The challenges are real and we’re upfront about them. This is how we plan for them.

In Iraq, in most cities you’ll be the only foreigners around. From the marshes in the south, home to the Ma’dan families, to the Yazidi festival at Lalish in the north.
