The Thirsty Historian - Custom Experiences in Munich & Bavaria

The Thirsty Historian - Custom Experiences in Munich & Bavaria We organize the best cultural experiences possible in Munich, Bavaria and Central Europe!

The Thirsty Historian was an idea created by two guys who have a passion for history while at the same time drinking one of their favorite brews, which they often find themselves doing. Levi is from the Midwest of the United States and with the help of his well-traveled, beer-loving family and his German roots, he developed a taste for the most delicious beers available to him no matter where life

takes him. After many journeys across Europe, Levi has found himself settled and loving life in Munich, Germany for the past 14 years. Quickly realizing that teaching English was not nearly as fun as explaining history and having a delicious drink while doing it, he started researching and conducting tours in 2008 and has hosted thousands of customers in the city and area related to Munich history, beer and brewing in Bavaria with a local company and privately. He quickly developed a taste for the finest and some of the oldest beers available worldwide and, adding local stories and culture, is now ready to share that with you. John lives in The San Francisco Bay Area/ Silicon Valley, California and has traveled countless times to Europe in the search for the finest local and cultural experiences together with great company and good drinks. Visiting small and large Breweries alike, he has found many amazing beers and great people. Both of us have found that not much is better than being in a great historical location with the best company and fantastic local food and beer. We find that the Bavarian region in south Germany has everything needed to fulfill these requirements. We started The Thirsty Historian based on our love of beer, and there's place better to discover beer the way it was originally intended than in Bavaria. The beer purity laws have kept the oldest beers here as authentic and delicious as the day the beers were first tasted. Some of the beers we introduce you to are over 700 years old (they do make fresh batches though).

We are about to get on a relaxed ferry ride to try some local wine while we take in the beauty of the central Rhine river valley.

We will pass around 15 castles surrounded by steep vineyards and do a wine tasting hike in the fairy-tale village of Bacharach.

Prost!

Munich’s Spring Fest, or Frühlingsfest, is celebrating the 60th anniversary this year and extended the party from 2 to 3 weeks long.

Locals often call it: “Oktoberfest’s little cousin. They both take place on the same park called Theresienwiese, but Spring Fest is far smaller.

Two large beer tents with live music, one Biergarten and an adult bier and cocktail, slowly-spinning carousel, are just part of the many fair attractions.

We will be here with a large tour group for 2 nights this weekend and will be sending updates!

Prost! 🍻

German Beer Day (Tag des deutschen Bieres) is celebrated annually on April 23 to commemorate the enactment of the Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law for Beer) in 1516, which stipulates that beer may only contain water, malt, hops, and yeast. At that time only barley, water and hops were allowed.

Bavaria celebrates this every year with multiple events about the beer industry. One of the more fun and impressive traditions is 1,000 liters of free beer that is tapped inside a fountain in downtown Munich! This year it started exactly at 15:16 (3:16pm) to honor the year it started.

Which beer(s) are you drinking today?

Prost! 🍻

It’s getting sunnier with flowers and trees blooming all over Munich! That means biergarten season is now here and we have countless places to enjoy drinks outside.

Some of our favorites:
Augustiner Keller - beer oasis near central station
Seehaus - lakeside biergarten in the English Garden
Michaeligarten - lakeside biergarten in Ostpark
Hofbräukeller - biergarten at the former brewery
Anywhere else when it’s sunny outside and it has cold beer!

Prost! 🍻

Biergarten season is here! All flowers and trees are in full bloom and our allergies are terrible, but it’s beautiful out and we are excited to relax at a lakeside biergarten in Munich’s Ostpark. 😁🍻

What’s your favorite Biergarten that you’ve been to?

Prost!

It’s Maibock beer season! This Hofbräu Maibock was first brewed in 1614 at Munich’s Hofbräuhas. It’s is an amber-colored beer with 7.2% abv. and a great beer for these cold spring days.

Munich just hosted the Starkbierfest (Strong beer) at multiple beer halls throughout the city. In just a few weeks the next beer fest finally starts in the style of a fair with rides, food stands and large beer tents at the Frühlingsfest! (Spring Fest).

Who is joining us? 😁🍻

Prost!
