🏰 Monte Urgull Cannons, San Sebastián: Three Centuries of Guardians

Swipe to meet three historic cannons watching over San Sebastián from Castillo de la Mota!

1. Dorino Eagle Cannon (1576)

Genoese sacre cast by master founder Dorino II Gioardi. You can spot his “D” mark and the crowned Habsburg eagle near the touchhole. This bronze piece sailed with Spanish fleets during the Armada era.

2. Rosita Wicke (1502)

Massive early bombard made by Juan Vastenove. One of the oldest preserved cannons in the city, famous for its inscription: “I sow death and suffering.” A true giant from the dawn of European artillery.

3. Saint Chamond 75mm (early 1900s)

French quick-firing steel cannon used by Spanish forces in colonial wars. Now positioned in the Batería de las Damas, it offers stunning panoramic views over La Co**ha Bay.

One of the best parts of running premium public tours is watching how wine, architecture, and a beautiful day in Rioja can bring people together.

On this tour, we had a full van of eight incredible people who started the morning as strangers. We had two loyal alumni returning for their third tour with us since 2024, a group from the United States, and a wonderful newlywed couple from Australia celebrating their honeymoon.

By the time we were standing under the iconic titanium waves of Frank Gehry’s Marqués de Riscal, the group dynamic was effortless. From talking design in Elciego to looking out over the endless medieval vineyard views at the Laguardia vista point, it felt like a trip among old friends.

100 million years of history, world-class seafood, and a perfect day on the coast. 🌊🐟

We took this incredible group of sharp English professionals out of the office and straight into the dramatic landscape of the Basque Country.

Our first stop: the legendary Zumaia Flysch. Walking along these massive, 100-million-year-old geological cliffs is the ultimate way to put things into perspective. (Swipe to see the scale of these coastlines 👉).

Next, we headed to the historic fishing village of Getaria for a masterclass in local gastronomy—featuring a traditional, charcoal-grilled whole fish lunch right by the port, paired perfectly with crisp, local Txakoli.

To wrap up the perfect coastal day, we went to a boutique Txakoli winery for an exclusive wine tour and tasting. The final frame says it all: eight content gentlemen, exceptional wine, and an unforgettable day on the North Coast. 🥂🍫
