Finally had the opportunity to visit the spectacular new raw earth cellars at Chateau Cantenac Brown 🤩 and they are stunning! The walls were made using the ancient rammed-earth technique, and both the soil and the wood used for the vaulted ceiling (also one-of-a-kind) are sourced from our region. No need for A/C with its superior insulating properties. Pure, natural, authentic… and no cement. And of course as one of the 14 third-growths in the 1855 classification of Bordeaux, the wine is also delicious! 🍷 ❤️

It’s a beautiful sunny day - colorful flowers and plants, a gorgeous setting, you can get delicious honey, artwork , pretty accessories, just everything. And even a ride in a horse-drawn carriage! 🐴

THINGS TO DO IN BORDEAUX 🤩 🙌 🎶
Concert by candlelight at the newly renovated Château Descas (so happy to see this amazing building being put to beautiful use!).
The fantastic string quartet Quatuor Alienor performed the beloved Vivaldi Four Seasons…. these four talented musicians have been around for a while, but they are not only accomplished classical musicians - they can deliver on everything from Coldplay to Taylor Swift and ABBA!
And before you ask,there were over 5000 candles lighting the venue last night. Wonder how long it took to get them all going? 🕯️ 😂

Back after a couple of months of travel and tastings! I will post more soon…. but I just got a little nostalgic and weepy when I came across this photo of our beloved Pucci, who crossed the rainbow bridge almost 2 years ago 💔
He was always sooo well behaved in restaurants, but sometimes he just had to see what delicious things on the table were sending all those aromas, and “could I pulleeeze have a tiny taste?” 🐶
Here we were at the restaurant Les Abeilles at Château Toulouse-Lautrec (also known as Château Malromé) , home of the famous painter until his death in 1901. We enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal. The restaurant has since been re-named Le Jardin d’Henri and features favorite dishes enjoyed by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. We can’t wait to go back and discover them!
The chateau offers a fascinating visit, and is only an hour from Bordeaux.

As we leave one year and head into another, a look at a few Bordeaux Christmas trees, and a couple of excellent wine lineups that we enjoyed this season. An extra special highlight on NYE was the Chateau Lagrange St. Julien from…. 1925!

Over 1000 motorcyclists in varying degrees of festive gear are right now driving down the boulevards in front of our house, on their way to the Children’s Hospital in Bordeaux (where my daughter was treated for her leukemia some years ago ) in their annual toy delivery to the children who are stuck in the hospital for the holidays. It’s been going on for 15 minutes now and still more are coming! Last year there were 1700 “motards“ who participated in the toy drive. 🎅🏻 🧑‍🎄 🤶 🏍️ 🎁 🥰

Saturday evening summer dinner party lineup 🥳 🍷 — from bubbles to a refreshing Clairet from Chateau Boutinet, followed by three outstanding reds: Chateau Pique Caillou 2016 (beautifully balanced), a magnum of Chateau Prieuré Lichine 2014 (divine) and Chateau Leoville Poyferré 2017 (drinking perfectly).

A special bottle for a special birthday ….
It was delicious with the saucisson - undoubtedly would be delicious with just about anything 😋
But you don’t have to save those beautiful bottles for a special occasion, you can pull them out and enjoy them with a few close friends just because it’s a Thursday.

The first Café Joyeux outside of France has opened in New York City! Great ambiance, the employees are excellent, the croque monsieur equals any I’ve had in France 😋 , and our server even pronounced it beautifully!
If you don’t know Café Joyeux, it is a nonprofit coffee shop/restaurant dedicated to training and employment of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It was founded in France in 2017, and now has 28 cafes, mostly in France, but also in Belgium and Portugal, and now in NYC!
If you have the opportunity to visit a Café Joyeux, you will be delighted , touched and charmed….
and the coffee is good, too ❤️☕️
