Tucked quietly beneath the shadow of Val d’Isère and Tignes, Sainte Foy is a charming, small-scale ski resort that delivers big on atmosphere, off-piste potential, and peaceful pistes. With just 35km of terrain and a top lift at 2,620m, it’s a place that thrives on quality over quantity – ideal for families, powder hounds, and those craving a more relaxed ski experience.
The resort village sits at 1,550m and has retained its traditional Alpine charm, with wood-and-stone chalets, ski-in-ski-out access, and sweeping mountain views. It’s uncrowded, unhurried, and, refreshingly, unpretentious. The terrain is a mix of cruisy blues, swooping reds, and four steep blacks, while three patrolled off-piste zones and tree runs offer secure adventure for more advanced skiers.
Sainte Foy is also a powder paradise, drawing savvy off-pisters and ski tourers with its sidecountry bowls, chutes, and couloirs. The slopes remain quiet even after a fresh dump, meaning fresh tracks linger for days. Confident intermediates can make huge strides here – and we strongly recommend a lesson or two to really take advantage of the terrain.
Beginners will love the mellow magic carpet zone (free to use) and gentle progression slopes. There’s excellent tuition and a friendly ski school scene, with plenty of British instructors. For kids, there are two garden areas and mascots Foxy and Nutsy to make learning fun.
Accommodation is mostly chalets and smart self-catered apartments – no ugly tower blocks here. Premiere Neige offers luxury catered chalets and hands-on concierge services, while self-catered options like Les Fermes and MMV Etoile des Cimes come with pools and spas.
Eating out? Try Les Marquises for sun-drenched terraces and local meats, or Restaurant 1580 for smoked meats and craft beer. Après is low-key but fun, with music at Llama Llama and White Lounge, or you can hop over to Val for a wilder night.
If your idea of a perfect ski day involves fresh snow, no queues, long lunches and actual skiing, Sainte Foy might just be your dream resort.
