Draig's Cottage

Draig's Cottage As you would imagine being in the Brecon Beacons, it's also a fantastic base for adventure and enjoying the great outdoors.

Draig's Cottage is a wonderful 2 bedroom Mews Cottage hidden away in a secret courtyard, close to the castle in Abergavenny (Welsh: Y Fenni) - edge of Brecon Beacons - Moutains, Rivers, Canals, Castles and foodie heaven! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Draig (Dragon in Welsh) is our handsome Cockerpoo and he just loves our cottage in Abergavenny so much that he wanted to share it with other lovely dogs and thei

r well behaved owners. Our cute 2 bedroom cottage is hidden away in a little Mews right off St John's Medieval Market Square, just inside the pedestrian area of this Market Town nestled amongst the hills of the Usk Valley, Abergavenny really is the Gateway to Wales. Abergavenny is a foodies heaven, not just for its World Renowned Food Festival in September each year, but also for the amazing local produce available and truly brilliant choice of places to eat, most of which are walking distance from Draig's Cottage! Monmouthshire is the Home of Welsh Cycling and the cottage has views of the Blorenge mountain, where the Famous Cycle Climb is just a short cycle away. Draig's Cottage has a bike lock up and there is also storage space for kayaks etc.

Early indications suggest Abergavenny could be one of the odds-on favourites to win the coveted UK Town of Culture title in 2028.

Happy Old New Year! Hen Galan! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Happy Old New Year (Hen Galan)!!

Yr Hen Galan is a custom that dates back to the adoption of the Gregorian calendar in 1752, as opposed to the previously used Julian calendar, which over the years, had lost 13 days, resulting in January 1st in the Julian calendar equating to January 14th in the Gregorian.

In some areas of Wales, the tradition of observing the new year according to the Julian calendar is continued, with the communities of the Gwaun Valley near Fishguard and Llandysul celebrating the ‘Hen Galan’ hen meaning old in Welsh and calan, meaning the first day of the month.

Oh my goodness we do love a proper coffee from our independent coffee shops!

Good coffee matters in Abergavenny. Locally we take the micky about how many coffee shops there are in town, but the fact is...we love the coffee culture that we have here.

Independent cafés, familiar faces, and places where conversations linger a little longer. Perfect fuel before the hills, or a reason to slow down in town.

Hiraeth is hard to explain with words alone. It sits in the chest like a quiet ache. It reminds you of the places and people who shaped you. It pulls you back to memories that feel warmer than anything the world can offer now.

It is the sound of rain on an old slate roof. It is the sight of hills you know by heart. It is the voice of someone you loved calling you home. Even when life moves on, that feeling stays. It becomes part of who you are.

Hiraeth is not sadness. It is love that refuses to fade. It is pride in where you come from. It is the longing for moments that made you feel whole.

We carry it with us wherever we go. Because to feel hiraeth is to know that our hearts still recognise home.
