The finest traditions of Welsh arts and crafts are celebrated here in the centre of the bustling market town of Abergavenny. Our Gallery showcases the work of members of the Black Mountains Circle Ltd and their guests. As well as high-quality, collectable art and craft work, there are special monthly exhibitions and a growing schedule of workshops. Each time you visit you will be greeted by one or two of our artists/makers who are always on hand for a friendly chat and to offer help.

Food. It's one of life's great pleasures (well it is if you're anything like me!) So it's no real surprise that it's also the inspiration for great art.

This is just a tiny amount of what's available at our gallery, which is inspired by or made for, food. But let's not forget drink, either. With a good meal comes a good drink and if you have any w**e leftover (really?!), then we even have quality hand-made bottle stoppers.

Today, we are featuring the work of jeweller, Annette Yates.

Annette designs and makes distinctive silver jewellery in her workshop near Abergavenny. She works mainly in sterling silver, sometimes adding gemstones and/or gold accents, and most of her pieces are hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office.

Her jewellery is now exclusive to the Frogmore Street Gallery here in Abergavenny, where you’ll always find an eclectic mixture of her current designs. Each piece is unique and often has a distinctly Celtic feel. Inspiration can come from her Welsh roots and the surrounding countryside (Anette often create pendants/lockets with local scenes in silver), as well as shapes, textures, seasons and whatever calls to her at a particular moment in time.

The beauty of art is that not all wall art has to be of the traditional materials. Here at Frogmore Street Gallery, we also have wall art made with alternative materials.

We have wall art made of enamel on copper, weathered copper, fabric, glass powders and silver foil, and different forms and styles of clay, to name just a few.

Come and have a look for yourself what can be done with so many different materials!

A few weeks ago (where does the time go?!), we published a post 'small & beautiful'. Well, there are still many more small and beautiful things at our gallery so this is 'part 2'. And, expect many more parts to this theme 😁

We have everything from jewellery, trinket dishes, sculptures and miniature paintings which fit this category, and also make...oh, wait a minute, I almost mentioned the 'C' word 😳What about the 'X' word? Is that acceptable? Yes - these would make excellent Xmas gifts, too 😇

Today, we showcase the work of one of our fabulous artists, Jude Lowery, also known as EweToo Art by JudeLowery.

Jude’s artistic journey has come full circle, from a childhood love of painting, through a career spanning almost 30 years teaching Art & Design, to developing her own artistic voice after retiring from school teaching.

Inspired by the natural world, Jude’s paintings explore not only the places and animals she encounters, but also the emotions and connections they evoke. Working primarily in watercolour and acrylic, she captures the character, colour and beauty of the world around her.

Jude's work is fabulously eclectic and if you would like to know more about her style, or experience it for yourself, you could always sign up to Jude's painting classes, which she runs from the gallery. Ask in the gallery for more details.

Quite often, our stewards get asked 'are you open on Sunday', or 'are you open tomorrow?' when it's a bank holiday. The answer is always YES 😁

We are open seven days a week, 10.30 - 4.30pm so you can wake up any morning and think 'yes, today is the day I will visit the gallery in Frogmore Street' without wondering if anyone will be there to let you in.

Currently, there are roadworks right outside the gallery, which isn't helping but rest assured, we are there!

Today, we are showcasing the work of artist, Keith Foster.

For as long as Keith can remember, painting has been his passion. He cannot remember a time when he has not painted.

Keith studied fine art at Newport College of Art, and received the National Diploma in Art and Design, following which he was awarded The David Murray Landscape Scholarship for Painting – which financed his early years as a painter.

Completing the postgraduate teaching degree in Cardiff University, enabled Keith to teach fine art, life drawing, and ceramics in various educational establishments in both England and Wales. He taught students to A-level, as well as adults in Further Education and evening classes.

Following his retirement from teaching, Keith has enjoyed being able to paint full-time from his studio at home in South Wales. His work has been exhibited in many galleries throughout Wales and the South of England, and in many open exhibitions including The John Moore’s Exhibition in Liverpool, the Royal Academy Summer Show, the National Eisteddfod, and Chapter Arts Centre, to name but a few.

There is something really wonderful about black in art. Of course, colours are lovely but black makes a real statement.

🖤In terms of science, black isn't actually a colour at all - it's what you get when there's a complete lack, or absorption of visible light.
🖤The colour black is achromatic, just like white and grey. This means that it has no hue.
🖤It is linked to prestige and elegance, which is why it dominates luxury branding and formal wear.

Black is definitely a statement and all these examples in our gallery show how wonderfully versatile it can be in art.

What could be more cosy than a lit candle? We have candlesticks, tea light holders, beautiful match pots to light your candles and even some lovely candle snuffers to put them out again.

Gotta love a candle!
