I think I might be actually dead. It feels like we’ve moved house 15 times this weekend but we are on the final push. I think at this stage I’d rather have given birth to a watermelon.

The Farm Cottage is nearly there and with the photographer coming tomorrow to take the photos, it was all hands on deck with everyone working all hours over the weekend to get us over the line. Huge love to our amazing team of Adam our builder and Gareth our joiner who never stop, Kenny our magician with a paintbrush and Ian landscaping faster than Lightening McQueen.

Also many, many thanks to Carla and her team at Dragon Cleans / Llnau yr Draig who, after a weekend of changeovers, came to transform a dusty mess into something that actually sparkles! I never thought I’d see the day. We’re shattered but honestly so excited!

Here’s a sneak peek of the two bedrooms in the Farm Cottage. Downstairs coming soon!

Do your dogs judge everyone who comes to the house?

Matty from Anglesey Cleaning Solutions arrived today and immediately attracted the attention of our security. I’m not sure whether they were checking his work, assessing the risk or simply fascinated to discover another ginger (sorry Matty, ‘Turkish sunset’) in the wild. Either way he was accepted into the pack before he’d finished the first pane. Thank you Matty for an excellent job making our windows shiny and sorry if you felt you were being watched! 🤣

Anyone else’s dogs insist on interviewing every tradesman who comes to the house?

Fancy dinner with a view? This one is pretty special!

Just along from the green in Beaumaris, a lovely pop up restaurant has appeared called BBQatthebaths serving up succulent seafood, sizzling steaks and tasty burgers all summer. Taking over the old baths and decorated with colourful sails donated from local boats, this charming little venue offers excellent food, an amazing view of the mountains and a great atmosphere. What more could you want in a place to eat?

Open until the end of the month, this place is not to be missed.

My dogs’ favourite place is the beach, especially the bit going from Benllech round to Red Wharf bay where the sand gets deep. It sends them crazy for some reason and they start zooming around for hours. When they’re done, I like to nip up to The Tavern On The Bay for a coffee and watch the world go by whilst Mya keeps her eye on the beach, just in case it disappears.

So where do you like to walk your dogs? On a beach, up a mountain, in a forest?

Have a guess where these are? Any ideas? I’ll give you a clue, they are on the island.

And like something out of a fairytale, these giant stepping stones form the perfect bridge across the estuary but be careful as if the tide rises, you can be stuck on the other side for a few hours so best to take some snacks just in case. With stunning views and a good cafe nearby, this hidden walk is an easy way to escape the crowds in the summer months.

So where on Anglesey are they? In the north, south, east or west?

People say to make a success of something you need three things- a clear vision, hard work and tenacity. But these days it feels like everything’s about racing up the ladder and getting instant results. The days of putting in the graft is seemingly shunned.

When Charlie was younger, he spent summers hand-raking golf courses. No machines, just hours and hours of sweat and blisters. At the time it probably looked and felt like a rubbish job but that daily slog built something in him that’s carried us through this year at Mount Pleasant Hideaway.

We never expected to do what we did here. We were just looking for a field to put Shirley Bussey and add a few tents in maybe. We never thought we’d be taking on two cottages, three log cabins as well as our school bus. However when we came here for the first time and saw the views and heard the peace, it was an absolute no brainer but it was a far bigger project than we had ever thought about (or budgeted for) and I can’t tell you how many people looked at us with fearful eyes and a crumpled mouth after we’d bought it and said, ‘there’s a lot to do isn’t there?’

Charlie’s done 14 hour days, six days a week for months, met endless surprises, knock backs, moments of doubt, illness and exhaustion. He’s barely seen the kids this summer but he’s kept going because something was planted in him years ago on those golf courses. And now, thanks to that grit, we are nearing the end. The painters are in The Farm Cottage and the carpets arrive next week. The cabins are open and our first guests have been happy. I feel like we are about to go over the crest of a wave in a once raging sea.

I know the next chapter of hosting will bring new challenges but I just want to take this moment to say thank you Charlie for all you’ve done. By golly you’ve thrown everything at this and the place looks stunning. I think I’ll stay with you for a bit longer. 😉

Oh praise the actual lord!!!!!! They are only nearly fully assembled!!!!

I had three sets of furniture to make today but look at the beautifulness in this box!! No shouting at Allen keys, no trying to find a ‘star’ screwdriver (who invented that weirdness?). I’ve just pulled them out and put on the cushions. That’s a whole morning of hatefulness gone at the opening of a box. What on earth shall I do with myself now?

Cabins are open, cottages coming soon! Taking bookings now!

Do you prefer to mow stripes, or diamonds or do you just like your lawn to stay alive?

It was bucketing down yesterday so whilst I went off to Manchester for some pretend important meetings, Charlie was left with two lawns to turf. But just look what he did! Doesn’t it look fabulous?

This is Garden Cottage and beyond is The Farm Cottage. Now we have yet to put the fencing and bushes in so don’t worry, they will be fully enclosed, private gardens and the squares in the lawn are not doggy escape tunnels but where the hot tubs are going to be placed.

Today as a payback I have opted to attack the endless boxes of outdoor patio furniture that needs assembling. There will be poor instructions, parts that I don’t have the right size tool for and lots of swearing guaranteed. I am chomping at the bit to start.

What’s the most exciting thing you’ve ever bought? A car, a posh handbag, a fancy coffee machine? I never knew when reaching adulthood that a sign would make me so giddy but it has and here it is!

Yes after months of dirt and dust, painting, landscaping, deliveries and wondering if we had completely lost the plot, Mount Pleasant Hideaway finally has its own name at the end of the drive. How much more official can you get? All shiny and bright, this stunner was made by Dave aka Arwyddion Caernarfon Signs who has lovingly crafted all the signs on the site.

No more driving past three times and ending up in somebody else’s farmyard. We’re officially on the map! Well…on a wall at least. What do you think?
