Two people, two passions, one idea.

We’re Benji and Susi, founders of Epic Italy.

A few years ago we decided to combine our love for cycling, food, wine and authentic travel experiences to create something different from the classic Italian holiday.

Not just routes and hotels, but the places we genuinely love ourselves. Quiet roads, family run vineyards, mountain climbs, hidden trattorie, long lunches, local stories and the kind of experiences that make you feel part of a place rather than just visiting it.

Today, through Epic Italy, we organise guided and self guided cycling tours in Northern Italy, helping riders discover Bassano del Grappa, Veneto, the Dolomites and beyond through the eyes of locals.

A lot of people hear “self guided” and imagine being left alone with a GPX file and a hotel booking.

For us, it should feel completely different.

Camilla and Hulda spent a week riding through Northern Italy with us, climbing Monte Grappa, swimming in alpine lakes, stopping at vineyards, getting slightly lost in small villages, and sending us voice notes over glasses of Prosecco 🍷

But behind the scenes, there was also route support, restaurant reservations, luggage transfers, mechanical help when things didn’t go to plan, and daily WhatsApp check ins to make sure everything flowed smoothly.

That’s what we believe a good self guided cycling holiday should feel like.

Freedom to explore Italy at your own pace, while knowing someone local is always there when you need them.

Was it worth waiting on the side of the road for hours just for a few minutes of the Giro d’Italia?

Absolutely.

Because watching the Giro d’Italia in Italy isn’t really about the race alone.

It’s the ride up the mountain.
The atmosphere building all morning.
The roadside BBQ smoke.
The old Italian man handing out wine in plastic cups.
Thousands of cyclists and fans waiting together on iconic climbs like Monte Grappa and the Dolomites.

Then suddenly… helicopters overhead.

The peloton arrives.
Noise. Speed. Chaos.

Gone in seconds.

If you love cycling, this is something you need to experience at least once in your life.

"This has been the best holiday we've ever had. We will definitely be back"

For us, self-guided cycling trips should feel personal from the very first conversation.

Not just GPX files and hotel bookings, but understanding how you like to travel, how you like to ride, and the kind of moments you’ll remember long after the trip is over.

For Camilla and Hulda’s week in Northern Italy, that meant quiet roads, lake swims, Monte Grappa, olive oil tastings, vineyard lunches, luggage transfers, WhatsApp support throughout the trip... and a few glasses of Prosecco along the way!

While they focused on the riding, food, wine, and enjoying time together, we took care of everything happening behind the scenes.

At the end of the trip they sent us a message saying:
“This has been the best holiday we’ve ever had.”

Italy in May. Which means one thing…
Ride up a mountain to watch the gladiators of the Giro d’Italia battle it out.

But the part no one tells you about?

It’s everything before they arrive.

The early start.
The car-free roads.
The slow build as more riders join you on the climb.
Someone handing you a plastic cup of beer at 10am.
A roadside BBQ that appeared out of nowhere.

Hours of waiting for a few seconds of racing.

And somehow… that’s exactly the point.

If you’re just getting into cycling and searching for your first proper experience, this is it.

Somewhere between the climbs, the café stops, and that first glass of wine at the end of the day… it just clicks.

That’s what our trips are really about.

Not racing. Not chasing numbers.
Just riding good roads, at your own pace, with a group that actually feels like a group.

We ride together.
We stop often.
And yes, we take our time when the view is worth it.
