A lazy start to the day with breakfast in bed? Or making the most of the evening sun and bird song to enjoy a meal and glass of wine in the garden?

Of course, there's no rule that says you can't do both 😁

A lovely spot to stop and explore when you're staying at the cottage is Cenarth with it's beautiful falls and salmon leap. Depending on what time of year you visit you either see quiet and peaceful tumbling water when the river is low, to an impressive force of nature when the river is in full flood.

There's been a water wheel-powered mill since the 13th century with the current two storey mill dating from the 18th century. It was a working mill up until 1939.

The village is really characterful with quite a few places to stop and eat. There's a couple of pubs which do good food and a tea room for a traditional cream tea. There are also a couple of small, independent gift shops to browse.

So, what would your choice be? Pub lunch after your walk or a traditional cream tea in the garden?

After a weekend that was quite stressful for Ruby I booked Ffynone dog field for this morning so we could focus on training and playing without any other dogs around.

If you're staying with us at Cysgod Y Llan this field is just 10 minutes down the road and it's great. The perfect place to let your dog have a really good run around without distractions.

It's completely secure, there's cover to sit down if the weather's not great and a few obstacles for your dog/s to investigate. There's even a mud-daddy in case your dog gets dirty although there are no puddles so I think that's unlikely.

There's even a little shed where you can buy dog dryrobes and occasionally eggs and veg.

We recently got told to choose somewhere to be taken to for a treat meal by my daughter and as Craig's a pizza fan and it's been on our list to visit for ages we chose Grain in Cardigan.

And oh boy was it a great choice.

It's a lovely location overlooking the estuary and the staff were so lovely, really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We were originally booked into the Teepee but it was sunny so they asked if we'd like to sit outside if they could find a table. We did although the table really only sat 6 and we were 7 so when another, slightly larger table became free we moved again! They were so accomodating.

Between the seven of us I think we tried every pizza on the menu and they were all fab. It's child and dog-friendly.

This is an eatery we highly recommend.

And before you know it half-term is over.

We've had a great time with all the grand-kids visiting. It's been really hot so the week has been filled with early morning dog walks, lazy days and then de-camping to the beach late afternoon when it's cooled slightly but was still warm enough for swimming and body-boarding.

I think we consumed most of Pembrokeshire's stock of ice cream too!

What have you done over half-term and the heat wave? Hidden at home in the cool? Work as normal? Time with grandchildren?

Ffynone Falls is a regular dog walk for us. Just a couple of miles down the road with miles of unspoilt woodland tracks and the magical waterfall who wouldn't make the most of it?

Last week I got talking to chap who was sketching the falls. He's a local who visits lots of local beauty spots and does some amazing sketches. So with Craig's birthday approaching I asked if he could do a sketch of the falls and Dilys that I could give to Craig as a present.

A week later and he delivered ❤️

We're going to be showing some of David's prints in the cottage going forward and they will be for sale.

What better way to remember your stay in this beautiful part of Wales than to take home a limited edition print of a place you visited created by a lovely Welshman?

We're not just spoilt for myths and legends in Wales, we've got an abundance of castles. Early records of a castle at Cardigan show it as being about a mile down the river from about 1039 but the site in Cardigan shows an occupied castle since 1110.

This castle was captured in 1165 by Rhys ap Gruffydd (Lord Rhys) who demolished the original castle and rebuilt it with stone. It's believed that this was the first stone castle built by a Welshman!

Much of the castle was left damaged by the Royalists in 1645 although they were defeated and chased off.

What you see now is Castle Green House which was built in the 1800s. You can walk around the inside of the house and learn about the people who lived there and the garden to the front is a lovely place to sit and soak up the atmosphere.

It's a lovely way to spend a few hours and learn the history of the current house together with the origins and drama of life in the original castle.

There's a really nice place to grab some food, a play area for children and dogs are welcome. Also, when you buy a ticket it's valid for a year so you can return as many times as you'd like.

I remember when I was a kid people used to fly around in planes and take lots of pictures of houses and then go around selling them to the people who lived in them. I know my dad bought one of our house. Anyone else remember them?

Now with drones it's so much easier to see your property from the air.

These shots show the location of the cottage right next to the woods and deep in the countryside around us.

We're so lucky to live here and we love sharing this with all of you lovely people who come to stay in the cottage.

Does the place where you live have it's own legend? What is it?

Not far from our holiday cottage is the lovely historic market town of Newcastle Emlyn which is a lovely place with a high street full of independent shops, art and antique centres. There are also some really nice restaurants, cafes and pubs for that much needed sit down.

BUT... any walk around Newcastle Emlyn should also include the 13th Century Norman castle ruins and the gatehouse where you can discover the legend of the last dragon of Wales.

According to this legend a Wyvern, which is a fierce winged creature breathing smoke and fire, landed on the castle walls and settled to sleep.

This happened during a fair when the town was full to the brim with people and although the Wyvern initially caused panic and terror a few brave folk decided to try and destroy the creature.

When the dragon woke it saw a red cloak floating in the river Teifi which had been placed there as a trap by a soldier. The dragon went to attack the cloak but was shot by the soldier and during its death throes it floated off down the river.

There’s plenty of info about the legend at the castle gates with sculptures of the dragon and some information boards.

The question is though, if the last dragon was killed, who’s creating the dragon’s breath in the Welsh valleys on chilly mornings? 😱
