Wow I've walked at Canaston Woods loads of times and have never come across this stunning relic. Gareth's photos are always incredible and he finds the most amazing places that are hidden away from view.

Canaston Woods are just over half an hour from the cottage and are a lovely place to walk and now there's something to find while you're there! 😁 🦮

A garden centre might not be your first thought of somewhere to visit while you're on holiday but Penrallt Nursery at Moylegrove is definitely worth a visit if you've got a couple of hours spare.

There's a children's play area, a dog-friendly cafe that serves lovely hot and cold food, a gift shop and pets essentials. Have you ever let your dog choose their own toy? 🤣

There's also a walk down to Ciebwr Bay, a wild little cove that's often a good spot to see porpoise.

Obviously you can also buy plants and all things garden related but you might not be thinking of those while you're away from home 😁

Have you ever seen a seal pup in the wild?

One of the lovely things about staying in this part of Pembrokeshire is the chance to spot grey seals along our beautiful coastline.

From September to November, grey seals come ashore to have their pups, and if you're lucky you might see them on some of the quieter beaches and coves around Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.

The coast between Strumble Head and Cardigan, and further north towards Mwnt and New Quay, is one of the areas recommended for seal spotting, so there are some great opportunities within easy reach of the cottage. Cardigan Island Farm is just 30 minutes away and a great place for seal spotting.

If you do spot one, the National Trust recommends staying at least 50 metres away, keeping quiet and watching from the coast path where possible. And if you see a lone pup on it's own, it doesn't mean it's been abandoned, mum may simply be resting offshore until it's safe to return.

🐾 If you have your dog with you keep them on a short lead and at least 50 metres from any seals. Dogs can cause seals considerable stress, even when they're only curious.

And here's a little fact I didn't know: the grey seal's scientific name Halichoerus grypus means "hook-nosed sea pig". Not quite as glamorous as "grey seal", is it? 😂

So if you're exploring the coast during an autumn stay with us, pack the binoculars. You never know who might be lounging on a beach below. 🦭💙

Some days I want to walk in woodland, other days on a beach and sometimes just in open spaces. Luckily round here we're spoilt for choice with all of those options.

A ancient woodland that's close to us with fabulous trails through is Ty Canol where there is a nature reserve. It's not far from Pentre Ifan, the burial mound and you can easily include both in your walk.

Tbh, the first time we went to Ty Canol with friends and our dogs we were 2 hours longer than planned because we got lost 🤣🤣 It's not that difficult to navigate but we let the guys decide where to go! 🤦‍♀️🤣

It's not a hardship though to spend extra time in this beautiful, mystical place and in the weather we've been having it's nice to be somewhere shaded with streams for the dogs to cool off in.

Are you glad that things have cooled down a bit? and that it's finally rained?

I've heard some people feeling sorry about the disappearance of the guaranteed sunshine but moody weather brings it's own attractions.

I took Ruby for a quiet walk at the beach today and we were given a fabulous show by these three guys kite surfing.

These photo's don't do them justice but I had to keep focusing on throwing a yellow frisbee to entertain Ruby so missed getting images of quite a few jumps.

I love a blustery day at the beach and watching other people enjoy it like this is a real bonus.

It's been a milestone week for the Tinky coffee truck this week as this was the 4th year anniversary of their morning get togethers in the Nag's Head car park at Abercych.

The lovely ladies from Bluestones Coffee don't just make fabulous coffee but they've created a regular event here that has the most amazing energy. It doesn't matter if you're a visitor who knows nobody or a local who turns up on your tractor every week, everyone is welcomed so warmly, both by Sas and Ailsa but also by everyone else who's there.

There's also a lovely dog walk that starts next to the car park so you can walk your dogs and then pop over for a lovely coffee and piece of cake afterwards.

We put a sachet of Bluestones Coffee in our cottage welcome pack and we get a lot of comments about how lovely it is. I recently got told it was the best coffee they'd ever tasted.

Having the grandchildren to stay is a great opportunity to visit places we wouldn't go on our own... being grown ups and all that! 🤣

This week we visited a place I've passed many times and didn't know what was down the very posh, fancy looking drive. Turns out its a lovely hotel with a caravan park in a really nice setting.

But most importantly, it has a Feud Hall! So if your kids are bickering constantly, set them against each other for a showdown! 🤣

You can pick 4 options from a range of activities and they've got 2 hours to complete them and compete against each other. There's crazy golf, corn hole, duckpin bowling, American pool, Shuffle board, augmented reality darts, table tennis or b**r pong! That last one might be just for the grown ups, although you could use a soft drink in the cups instead of b**r.

Alternatively you can just pick one activity which is what we did. Our lot are far too competitive already! So we stuck with crazy golf and it was a lovely, well looked after course with a nice seating area, not too far from the bar, for anyone not joining in.

Do you have an EV? Is managing to charge it when you're on holiday a worry?

We've always had an EV charger at Cysgod Y Llan that guests are welcome to use but we're about to make it so much easier.

Up til now it's been a case of, you charge your car, we'll then tell you how much that cost and you can settle up. But we've recently signed up with GuestCharge which means you don't need any input from us at all. Other than me to move my car if it's in the way! 🤣

As a guest you scan a QR code, pay a deposit with your bank card and then charge your car. Once the charge is finished the balance of the deposit is returned to you.

It even automatically handles the different prices between day time charging and nighttime cheap rate charging.

In an age when some many things seem over complicated, don't you love it when something is made as easy as possible?
