📍 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝘾𝙪𝙥𝙘𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙃𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙙 🇳🇴

We visited this port 13 months ago on our last fjords voyage - so it was great to be back.

The weather wasn't exactly on our side today but that didn't stop us. Just outside the cruise port there's a little tourist train - which lasts just over an hour, it takes you all around town covering all the key areas and landmarks. It brought us to the official Norway Monument aka 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗻 which we actually missed on our first visit.

𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙜𝙡𝙖𝙙 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙞𝙩.

If you're in Haugesund on a rainy day OR don’t fancy the walk over the bridge into town- that train is a brilliant option.

But the one thing we 𝗛𝗔𝗗 to do again was visit Cupcakehuset - Jåblom Bakery.

First time we visited we said they were the best cupcakes we had ever tasted. Second visit? Still exactly that. We were not wrong. If you ever find yourself in Haugesund, do not leave without going. You can thank us later 😄

A wet one - but a good one. Now we start our journey back to Southampton.

𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝘼𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙙 🇳🇴

We spent the day wandering through one of Norway's most colourful and charming towns - and how else can we describe it then: Pastel buildings, Scandinavian architecture lining every street, and a harbour that honestly looks too pretty to be real.

A few things worth knowing about Ålesund - it sits across a cluster of islands on the west coast of Norway, and almost the entire town was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style after a fire in 1904. That's why the architecture feels so unique and so consistent. Every corner you turn, there's another photo waiting to happen.

We stumbled upon a little coffee shop called Racoon ☕ - and if you find yourself here, please go. When we say stumbled, well we could hardly miss it- it was so popular!

The cookies alone were worth the stop. Genuinely some of the best we've had.

There is so much to do here too. Whether you fancy exploring on foot, joining an organised excursion, or jumping on one of the hop-on hop-off buses or the little train that runs right from the port entrance - you really can make a full day of it.

One of the go-to choices for Ålesund is walking the 418 Aksla steps up to the top of Mount Aksla for a stunning view of the surrounding areas. With a toddler though, this wasn’t on our agenda this time, but one to consider for sure 🚶

The pastel colours and architecture make it an absolute dream for photos - and taking that all important selfie📸

𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗸𝗷𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 🇳🇴

Today we’ve been exploring Skjolden, located at the very end of Norway’s longest fjord and the innermost point of the 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙’𝙨 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙟𝙤𝙧𝙙. 🇳🇴

While the weather wasn’t quite on our side, with a little drizzle and fog rolling through the mountains, it somehow added to the atmosphere of this incredible place.

We’ve spent the day wandering through one of the most peaceful destinations we’ve ever visited. The silence is remarkable, with barely a sound to be heard apart from nature itself.

Surrounded by 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 fjord views, traditional Norwegian buildings, Viking boats and kayakers gliding across the crystal clear waters, it has been a truly relaxing experience.

Sometimes travel isn’t about ticking off attractions or rushing from place to place. Sometimes it’s simply about slowing down, taking in the scenery and appreciating the calm around you.

Skjolden has certainly delivered that today. ❤️🇳🇴

📍 𝘼 𝙎𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 🇳🇴

What a place. We spent the day exploring Stavanger on foot and it didn’t disappoint for a second.

Our first stop was 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿, the beautiful old town area just a few steps from the cruise port. 173 small wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, all with white painted facades and protected status - it really is like stepping back in time. The cobbled paths wind between them and every corner gives you another photo opportunity. 𝘼𝙗𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜.

We explored all over before eventually we made our way to 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻, which couldn’t be more different and we loved it just as much.

The real name is Øvre Holmegate, but locals call it Fargegaten - the street of colours. Known for its rainbow coloured houses, it’s a lively hub of beautiful cafés, boutiques, and murals.

What’s lovely is the story behind it too - it was actually a hairdresser called Tom Kjørsvik who came up with the idea of completely renewing what was previously a quiet and rather dull street. His vision took more than four years to bring to life, with Scottish artist Craig Flannagan creating the colour scheme, and landlords and the city council all having to give their approval. From one end to the other it’s flags, colour, murals and character. A real surprise if you don’t know it’s coming.

One thing worth flagging if you’re planning a visit or if Stavanger is on your cruise itinerary - being a Sunday, it was lovely and quiet but quite a few places weren’t open. Something to keep in mind so you can plan accordingly.

The weather actually turned out fine for us too. Rain was forecast and it did catch us on arrival, but it lifted to overcast and we had a great day of walking and exploring. A truly Scandinavian town and one we’d absolutely recommend 🇳🇴

That means it’s time to dress to impress, get glammed up and make a proper night of it. Think extra special menu choices at dinner, gorgeous outfits and photos being taken everywhere you look.

The perfect excuse to look and feel fabulous at sea! 📸🥂

But we want to know… if you’re a cruiser, are you a 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 or a 𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥 of formal night? Some people live for it. Others would rather stay casual and keep it relaxed. There’s no wrong answer!

We could not be more excited to be sailing to the 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 once again.

If you know us, then you will know how much we love a cruise and this one is already shaping up to be something truly special.

Norway is one of those destinations that never gets old. The scenery, the fresh air, the sheer scale of those fjords… there is nothing quite like it.

And getting to enjoy it all while experiencing the fine wine and dine that you come to expect onboard a Cunard vessel, is just stunning ❤️
