I have just been sent this and wanted to share it. Please read, especially if you are worried that your flights to your dream destination might be cancelled:

She was sitting at her kitchen table at 11pm, tears in her eyes, about to cancel the safari she'd been saving for since her divorce.
Three years of putting away £100 a month.

A promise she'd made to herself the day she signed the papers.
"I'm going to Kenya. For me."

And then she saw the headline........ Her heart sank as she placed her head in her hands.

"AIRPORT CHAOS: Hundreds of flights cancelled as travel disruption hits UK."

She called me in a panic.
"Should I cancel? I don't want to lose the money. I don't want to get stranded. What if—"

For those affected and have had the aggravation of being told the airline couldn’t help with protecting you on a different flight or booking you a hotel whilst you’ve been delayed- and you’ve had to not only sort this out yourself but also pay a small fortune to get home, (which you’re now hoping to claim back from the airline and/or your travel insurance), had you booked your flights from the UK with a hotel/cruise/car hire as a package protected by ATOL, you would have been able to make one call to the emergancy number provided by the tour operator- and they would have sorted everything out for you. At no extra cost.
Back in January I was in Iceland when there were storms and Reykjavik airport closed after we had checked in to fly home. We called the emergancy number and waited for our checked in luggage to be returned to us whilst the tour operator sorted out a hotel for the night….ours wasn’t the first flight to be cancelled so people on the earlier cancellations grabbed rooms ahead of us.
All around us, we could hear the frustration of fellow passengers, most of who ended up sleeping at the airport. We were taken to a very nice hotel and returned back to the airport the following afternoon for our replacement flight home 24 hours’ later. With no stress at all (just the inconvenience of the delay).

It might cost a few pounds more to book as a package - you’re paying for the insurances that will be in place to protect your holiday - but imho it’s worth it. And, it doesn’t always cost more as tour operators have special rates that are lower than published air fares worldwide, as well as in hotels.

Someone I know in the cruise industry was on board the newest cruise line’s ship, Explora 1, last weekend from Portsmouth to Copenhagen; below is their review along with two photos they shared with me.

This new luxury brand is owned by MSC and is the first of 6 ships planned by 2028

Highlights included:

- The European hospitality with an excellent standard of food and beverage throughout the ship
- One of the best meals we have ever had at Anthology from a 3 star Michelin chef, and Japanese food heaven at Sakura
- The Emporium food hall ( like Harrods food hall, foodie heaven ) with the best pizza from a chef from Naples
- A cooking class with a master chef
- The wellness facilities ( 700 sq metres ), I loved cycling on the deck as we departed Portsmouth, and the spa, hot tubs, yoga and a fantastic gym in partnership with technogym, which includes gym kits in some of the suite and on demand classes
- Spacious public areas and 12 lounges - the astern lounge was my favourite for the sunset views and outdoor sun beds and pool
- All 461 suites have balconies and small touches such as Chess boards, a selection of books, Illy coffee machine, Champagne welcome , Binoculars , Dyson hairdryers
- There is a huge focus on CSR, reducing waste and buying local and sustainable products, the goal is to reach net zero by 2030
- It’s operates at a slower pace than other ships - arriving at different times and staying longer in port

I am hoping to visit Explora 1 later this month when she docks in Southampton.
