Absolutely amazing news from the Hippodrome Cinema!! 📽

Scotland’s oldest surviving purpose-built cinema in Bo’ness has been selected as one of five nominees for the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) Cinema of the Year award - the only Scottish cinema to make the shortlist!!

Over 70 cinemas entered and almost 50,000 votes were cast by cinemagoers up and down the UK. The public vote determined the shortlist of the five nominees, and the jury will pick the winner based on how each venue uniquely supports its local community.

Huge thanks to all who voted, and fingers crossed for the results on Sunday 6th December. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

SMALL CINEMA. BIG NEWS! 🎉

We have made it to the final five for BIFA Cinema of the Year 2026!!

Not only that but we are the only Scottish Cinema in the running👏

Thanks to all of our supporters taking the time to vote and write why the Hippodrome is such a special cinema. This is what the judges used to narrow down the longlist and it was clear how loved our beautiful cinema is.

The winner is to be announced at a ceremony in London on Sunday 6 December. Fingers crossed!

Last night we got a sneak peek of Callendar House Halloween Haunts, which opens tonight. With immersive scares, spine-tingling storytelling, a spooky bar and plenty of surprises along the way, it’s a fantastic experience.

Tonight is already sold out, but there’s still time to make a last-minute boooo-king and discover this unique Halloween experience in the atmospheric surroundings of Callendar House.

The Hippodrome Cinema has been longlisted for Cinema of the Year at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), along with just 14 other cinemas across the UK.

Huge thanks to all who voted 🤗 This is such brilliant recognition of how special the Hippodrome and Bo'ness is!
