🌞 Beat the Heat — Responsibly! ♻️

Mini fans and other “fast tech” gadgets are flying off the shelves in this heatwave — but what happens when they break or the battery gives out?

🔌 These small electricals often end up in the bin, but that means the useful materials inside them - things like gold, lithium and copper - are lost. They can also cause fires in bin lorries when their batteries get crushed.

🌀 At Folkestone Electrical Recycling, you can easily recycle small electricals like mini fans, without making a special trip to the recycling centre.

📍 Just drop them off at our stall while you're in town on a Saturday, 10am–2pm, outside HSBC in Folkestone.

And if you have a full sized fan that's broken or unwanted, we can reuse or recycle that too! Let's stay cool 🌬️ and keep our planet cooler too.

Looking forward to this as always. Among the agenda items is my vision for Go Folkestone a year from now.

Right beneath your feet on the Leas Promenade...👇

In the 1890s, a huge underground tank room was built beneath the Leas, housing railway-style tanks capable of storing over 166,000 litres of water to power the Lift. By 1899, more were added, boosting total capacity to more than 261,000 litres.

Though the original tanks are now beyond repair, we’re preserving them in place by lining them with GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) to make them watertight once again 🙌

There have been some changes recently to the leadership of Go Folkestone.

Tony Quarrington has been appointed Chair with Marie-helene Hunter as his Vice- Chair.

Tony spent many of his childhood holidays in Folkestone and moved here in 2016 with his wife, Janet. They live near Radnor Park.

In that time, he has become a familiar figure in the town, most notably for his walking tours and involvement in several literary projects. In addition to his regular poetry readings, he has published a collection of poetry inspired by his affection for Folkestone.

Tony said that he was "thrilled" to have received the confidence of his Committee colleagues, adding that he "planned to build on the many impressive achievements of the group over the past 24 years and provide both the membership and the wider community with the best possible service and value for money".

The next meeting of Go Folkestone is scheduled for Wednesday 11th June at 7pm at the Burlington Hotel. We would be delighted to see as many members as possible at that meeting, as well as some new ones!
