William Harvey was born in Folkestone on 1 April 1578 and died on 3 June 1657. Each year, around the time of his death, a thanksgiving service is held where the Town Mayor, Councillors, Town Clerk, members of the Harveian Society of London, the Old Harveians and representatives from local schools process to the William Harvey Statue on the Leas.

The Town Mayor and guests assemble at the Burlington Hotel, Earls Avenue to depart at 15:15 hours to process to the William Harvey Statue for the Service followed by the laying of wreaths. They then process down The Leas, stopping at Church Street to say a prayer at the Plaque to mark the location of the family home before finishing at the Town Hall.
