6️⃣0️⃣ WALKS LAUNCHED FOR IW WALKING FESTIVAL AUTUMN 🌿🥾
The popular IW Walking Festival is back this Autumn - and it's just under two months away! The first set of walks are now live and ready to book.🙌
Festival highlights include:
🥾 The Haunted History Walks:
Peel back the layers, gather your nearest and dearest, steady your nerves and join for delightfully frightful tales from the tomb, chillingly told by your host and ghost-master, Marc Tuckey.
🥾 Following the Caul Bourne stream from The Water Mill, Calbourne:
An early morning circular walk from Calbourne Mill, passing through the village of Newbridge and taking in stunning views from Quarry Lane.
🥾 Wilde Ryde:
In 1884 Oscar Wilde delivered a lecture “On Dress” at Ryde Town Hall as part of an international speaking tour. Famous or Infamous in equal measure, Oscar drew crowds who came to be entertained but stayed to be informed. Much of what the great man had to say still speaks to us today, albeit with our far less formal attire. 140 years on, the spectre of Oscar still haunts Union Street.
🥾 Pier to Pier: Shanklin to Ventnor:
Enjoy a walk from Shanklin to Ventnor, up the Downs, and back via the coastal path with panoramic views of our island, Ventnor and the Bay.
🥾 Battle of Britain: St Boniface Walk:
This scenic walk over St Boniface Down reveals stunning views and echoes of war. Learn how the Battle of Britain led to Ventnor’s radar station being bombed, drawing Luftwaffe attacks across the town and changing its wartime fate.
🥾 Lost Buildings of Niton:
Step back in time on this historic walk through Niton, uncovering the stories behind lost buildings that once stood proud. From hidden tunnels to vanished manors and forgotten ruins, discover the secrets that shaped this unique southern island village.
🥾 Vectis Via Vado:
A celebration of our island’s Roman heritage. A short, medium and long distance walking event, ideally for groups of four or more, or in relay teams. The 26.6-mile route will start at the County Show Ground and snake its way across our island to Brading Roman Villa. Roman fancy dress will be encouraged, as will the use of Roman names
