Our Ramsden Building has officially re-opened after an extensive refurbishment!

Home to our International Office, International Study Centre and our Doctoral College for postgraduate research, was designed by architect Edward Hughes and is an example of the Gothic Revival movement.

Following a delicate 12-month process, we've modernised the building and made it fit-for-purpose for current day, whilst retaining the charm from its construction in 1883.

The amazing teams behind the refurb restored and maintained some of the building's original features, while bringing them up to modern safety standards. This includes beautiful features, like the grand entrance staircase, various stained glass features throughout the building, and original beams to support the roof and high ceilings.

Refurbishment work also included the addition of air source heat pumps to replace the previous heating system, as well as old mechanical and electrical systems being brought up to date in line with the University's drive towards decarbonisation of its estate.

The building is now designed to operate using 100% electricity, with zero fossil fuel consumption ♻️🌍
