Caley Cruisers have been offering boating holidays on Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal since 1970 and we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2020! No previous boating experience necessary as full training given. Cruising 60 miles of Europes most beautiful inland waterways will be one of the most memorable experiences you will ever have.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING BOOKING COMMUNICATIONS

We would like to make our guests aware of a security issue currently affecting the SuperControl booking system, which we use to manage our reservations.

Unfortunately, fraudulent messages are being sent to some guests via WhatsApp, email and potentially text message, impersonating genuine booking communications. These messages may contain suspicious links or requests for personal or payment information.

We have been made aware of this issue and are in the process of contacted our guests to make them aware.

Please be vigilant and take care when receiving any messages relating to your booking.

A few important points:

Do not click on suspicious links.

Do not provide personal or payment details in response to unexpected messages.

Do not make any additional payments in response to unsolicited requests.

If you are unsure whether a message is genuine, please contact us directly using our usual contact details.

We are taking this matter seriously and are working alongside the booking system provider as they investigate.

With the 2026 season coming to a close tomorrow we have now moved to our winter opening hours.

We just want to say a huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts to every single guest who has chosen to stay with us this season. It has been an absolute pleasure meeting so many lovely people, and you have certainly kept us busy!

But just because the summer season is over it does not mean we are closing our doors this year!

Our houseboats are open all year round, and if you haven't experienced the canal in winter, you are missing out. It is absolutely gorgeous, with a whole different kind of peace and beauty.

So, if you are visiting Inverness over the winter months, we would love to welcome you aboard one of our Houseboats.

NAVIGATION ON YOUR BOATING HOLIDAY

Whether you are new to boating or have plenty of experience we want you to feel prepared for your time on the water.

At Caley Cruisers we provide basic, easy-to-follow navigation charts. These are designed to be accessible, particularly for guests who have little or no previous boating experience.

Experienced boater?

If you have previous boating or navigation experience, you are welcome to use additional navigation aids on your own tablet or mobile phone.

Please note that Caley Cruisers does not provide tablets or mobile phones for navigation so if you woud like to use digital navigation aids, please remember to bring your own device.

Whatever your level of experience, taking time to familiarise yourself with your navigation charts before setting off is always a good idea.

VHF RADIO EQUIPMENT - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Planning to bring your own VHF radio on your boating holiday with Caley Cruisers. Here is what you need to know.

As an appropriate VHF licence is required to operate VHF equipment, Caley Cruisers cannot provide VHF equipment on board.

You are welcome to bring your own VHF equipment, provided you hold the appropriate VHF licence. The lock keepers do like this as it makes contact with you easier.

Please remember: You must provide a copy of your VHF licence to Caley Cruisers either by email before your holiday or on arrival.

Please ensure your documentation is ready in advance so everything can be checked before you set off.

If you are unsure about the requirements, please get in touch with our team before your holiday.

LIFE JACKET UPDATE

Your safety is important to us, and we want everyone to be properly prepared before setting off on their boating holiday.

If you choose to bring your own life jacket, please remember:

✔️ Correct buoyancy rating (Newtons): Your life jacket must have the appropriate Newton rating for its intended use. Buoyancy aids designed for watersports are not sufficient for cruising on open water like Loch Ness and Loch Lochy.
✔️ Servicing: Your life jacket must have been serviced within the previous two years.
✔️ Service certification: Evidence of service certification must be available for inspection on arrival or emailed to Caley Cruisers before your holiday.

Please note life jackets will also be inspected on arrival.

For bookings made on or after 3 November 2026, auto-inflate life jackets will be included as part of the hire.

If you have any questions about life jacket requirements before your holiday, please contact our team.

Our standard changeover days are:

Need a different day? Handover on other days may be possible by prior arrangement, subject to availability, and will incur an additional charge of £100.00.

🌤️ Need to change your holiday date?

Where possible, we will do our best to accommodate requests to move your holiday to another available date within the same season, provided we receive more than 14 days' notice.

We always recommend getting in touch with our team as early as possible if your plans change.
