Yesterday Pat and Ant Greenwood (aka owner Suzy’s parents and previous owners of Seaflowers) had a very exciting day out. They took our green men status to the in Dartington.

Originated in Naples, our statues are a copy from a pair discovered in Herculaneum, which Pat and Ant saw in the Archeological Museum in Naples on their birthday trip to Italy last month.

They are known as The Athletes but are in fact wrestlers. Fun fact - a much larger copy was made for the Calgary Olympics in 1988.

We don’t know who first purchased our green men, but they came into the Greenwood family via Suzy’s great grandfather, who lived in Cork, Ireland. We presume he inherited them, as they would have been bought by someone on a grand tour of Europe around 1800.

Pat and Ant had a wonderful time yesterday meeting Fiona Bruce, who they said was so lovely. We’ll have to wait until the episode airs in September to see Pat, Ant and our statues on the BBC. In the meantime, Suzy is very happy to see them back where they belong, overlooking the Seaflowers lawn!

It’s a busy summer ahead!

Our next weekend availability is 25-28 September - perfect for those seeking late summer luxury by the coast before we sink into autumn.

While late July and August are fully booked mid week too, we do have some mid week availability through June and early July for last minute sun seekers. Check the link in the bio to secure before they’re gone.

There’s then just a handful of weekend dates remaining towards the end of the year and next year is already filling up fast. It’s never too early to start planning your 2027 holidays to avoid disappointment.

So when are you going to visit next?

Sometimes the shortest reviews are the sweetest. ✨

Heidi and her family stayed with us earlier this month and were one of those groups we can’t wait to see again. They were all so wonderful, so appreciative of the care poured into Seaflowers, and noticed all the little things that make a stay feel special. It was a joy to meet them, and to see them clearly enjoy the house and gardens so much.

Here’s what Heidi said in her five star review: “Out of this world. Beautiful views, gorgeous house and gardens, spotlessly clean.” She even took the time to post it on two review platforms - what a generous guest!

Thank you Heidi - we hope to welcome you back very soon. 🩵✨

In this new series we’ll be sharing places to visit, things to do and our top recommendations of where to eat near Seaflowers. Being so close to the coast, of course beaches will feature highly! 🏖️

Slapton Sands had to be first. This stunning 3 mile long shingle beach is just a 10 minute drive from Seaflowers. With the road closed due to storm damage, you can currently park at Torcross and walk along Slapton Line to take in our beautiful Start Bay.

While you’re there, pop into for the best fish and chips around, a cheeky pint or a delicious ice cream. And don’t miss for nostalgia pic’n’mix! You can walk around Slapton Ley nature reserve too, and even take a yoga class at the wonderful .

You may have seen the dramatic footage of the storms that caused so much damage to the village and sea front this winter. A high easterly wind causes waves to crash along the shore with an incredibly powerful force. (Earlier this month much needed funding was confirmed to help protect Torcross village at the southern end of the bay. We await a decision on funding to repair the road.)

What you may not have seen is how calm and flat that same sea is with a westerly offshore breeze. It can be as still as a millpond - a perfect natural swimming pool. A must for any keen wild swimmers, or dippers!

Slapton Sands is a must visit for any guests staying at Seaflowers. Walk the line, enjoy a day at the beach, take a swim, support our local businesses. It’s a wonderful spot, with a resilient community, and so much history and nature to be enjoyed.

It’s not every day The Times runs your story.

In July 2024 they featured Seaflowers in their Moving Stories series with the headline “I left my high-octane job to run a guest house in Devon.”

At the time owner Suzy was actually still working her corporate job (the editor corrected the online headline at her request!). Earlier this year she did take that leap though, going full time with Seaflowers and her own PR consultancy - Seaflowers Studio.

Read the full piece online at The Times for a little Seaflowers family history, and check out for what Suzy did next. 🩵✨
