🏗️ Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, visited Old Haymarket this morning to see the latest progress on the area's regeneration, including the installation of a new replica of the original Queensway Tunnel Monument.

Work is set to continue over the coming months, with the public realm improvements scheduled for completion at the end of the year.

Liverpool City Council has launched a campaign calling on drivers and cyclists to take care while travelling around the region this summer.

A few simple actions that can help keep everyone safe:

✅ Stay alert
✅ Ride and drive considerately
✅ Leave at least 1.5m clearance
✅ Give priority to vulnerable road users

120 years on: a memorial plaque has been unveiled at Hall Road station, marking one of Britain's worst rail disasters. On 27 July 1905, an express train travelling from Liverpool to Southport collided with another train. 21 were killed and another 47 were injured.

The unveiling of the memorial, led by the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mr. Mark Blundell, saw attendance from local residents, historians, and representatives from the Combined Authority, Sefton Council and Merseyrail.

Cllr Steve Foulkes, chair of the Transport Committee at the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority said: “The Combined Authority is proud to be supporting Sefton Council in preserving the memory of this terrible disaster by installing a plaque commemorating those who died and were injured. It’s important that such tragic events, and the lessons they held for the development of rail safety, are not forgotten.”
