Mountain Bike Wales

Mountain Bike Wales Amazing mountain bike experiences across Wales, specialising in multi-day tours and adventures.

Phill & Polly live, work and play in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains of mid Wales. We have over 20 years guiding experience in both the UK and Europe, and our knowledge and experience of Wales will ensure you have an amazing mountain biking adventure across one of Britain's last remaining wild landscapes. We're ideally situated to guide you across Wales along the Trans Cambrian Way (our specia

lity), explore the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the south, or the stunning Snowdonia National Park to the north. The Elan Valley is also a favourite of ours, and its large expanse of open land and excellent bridleways offer riders a true wild and remote adventure at every twist and turn along the trail. The forest centres at Nant Yr A***n, Coed Y Brenin and the Dyfi Forest also have excellent trail heads and are a great day out if you don't want to look at a map. However just a pedal stroke away are a network of off piste single-track trails that offer the seasoned trail rider so much more. All our weekends include great accommodation, food, guiding and transfers, and give you a real flavour of mid Wales life along your journey. So let us take all the hassle out of organising your weekend away, and guide you on your very own Wales adventure...

A busy day up on the hill at Mountain Bike Wales, and we didn’t even get to turn a pedal!! Huw Kingston the adventurer and grandson Anders popped by for a cuppa on route to start bikepacking the Traws Eryri, wishing them fine weather (we start Thursday 🌧️)

Rob and the crew from Retrobike set off on our Summit to Sea Route from The Lodge, Staylittle to Borth, so an afternoon pickup from the Victoria back, followed by delicious home cooked food from Polly.

Few hire bikes sorted for their second day (inbetween mowing around lodge) and that was the day gone!

At the end of June we’ll be ridding down this stunning stretch of coastline after 6 days of riding across Wales. Crossing the Gower late afternoon, we traverse Rhossili Bay and end our journey at Worms Head. It’s one of the most beautiful ends to a ride…

Finally managed to get Mrs Watkins to sit still for a pic!! For anyone who has ridden the Trans Cambrian Way with us, you’ll most likely recognise this amazing couple, Barbara & John.

For more than 10 years, Barbara has welcomed our guests with fresh water and, on the most miserable days, a cuppa, a towel, and some shelter (and has even offered lifts for those wanting to finish early 😂), plus the occasional emergency taxi!

She always brightens our day. Without people like John & Barbara, James in Cwmystwyth, Andrew & Andrea at Ty’s, and Liz at BB, who all support our small business in Mid Wales, the journey simply wouldn’t be the same. They help make it a memorable adventure, filled with local stories and characters, rather than just a ride through the wilds.

Diolch yn fawr i bawb.

Trans Cambrian Way Day 3, Llangurig to Machynlleth via Hafren Forest and Glaslyn NR. The final push over the Cambrian Mountains is simply EPIC! The panoramic views from Foel Fadian across Dyfi & Southern Eryri is truly something to behold, mid Wales at its most beautiful.

A big thanks to our guests this weekend for the enthusiasm, humour and support, it was so smooth on and off the bike, a super easy weekend for me and Dan to guide. Thanks to the team at Ty’s, awesome food, Liz & Katie at Bluebell for the warmest of welcomes, Andrew and Tim too!

Bit of a break now from the TCW with Elan Valley x 2, Traws Eryri x 2, and a 6 day Wales Coast to Coast thrown in. June is going to be busy!!

Trans Cambrian Way Day 2, Rhayader to Llangurig through Elan Valley, Teifi Pools, Hafod and Cwmystwyth.

Another blue bird day with stunning scenery, and dry flowy trails. That said, sunken road was still very much under water, but that cooled the feet nicely!!

The two groups came together at lunch at Barbara & Johns, then it was the tough afternoon finish back over the Cambrian Mountains to finish. 44 miles and over 5,000ft of climbing is a big day out, well done to all, especially the acoustic gang with Dan. Chapeau.

Trans Cambrian Way, day one from Knighton to Rhayader under a blanket of blue skies, and dry dusty trails. It doesn’t get much better than this for our two groups this weekend.

We’ve got one EMTB group out, whizzing up and down the hills, and an acoustic group making light work under their own strength and power. Both rolling into drinks in Rhayader in fine time and some very delicious food from Taylor at The Crown.

Elan Valley and Teifi Pools up next and 43 miles of Cambrian Mountain goodness…

You should always ride bikes on your birthday, so that’s exactly what I did!! MTB with my girl 🥰 and MX with the boys 👌🏻 rounded off with a trip down the hill for a beer at Jesse’s Bar and BBQ at home to finish. Not forgetting a few cakes of course! A top BH weekend indeed.
