💔 ABERFAN 💔

The day grown men cried….

Sixty years ago, on 21 October 1966, the village of Aberfan suffered a tragedy that would forever be etched into the heart of Wales.

At 9:15am, tip 7 collapsed above the village and engulfed Pantglas Junior School and nearby homes.

116 children and 28 adults lost their lives.

Behind those numbers were children with futures ahead of them, parents, teachers, neighbours and friends. Families were changed forever, and an entire community was left carrying unimaginable grief.

In the darkness of that day came extraordinary courage. Miners, emergency services, local residents and volunteers worked desperately through the debris in the hope of finding survivors.

Sixty years may have passed, but Wales has not forgotten.

We remember the children.
We remember the adults.
We remember their families.
We remember Aberfan.

21 October 1966

Always remembered.
