Notes from the road: Juliet in Bhutan 🇧🇹

"Bhutan is one of those rare places that still feels entirely itself.

I arrived expecting beauty, and there is plenty of it: mountain trails, monasteries rising out of the landscape, river valleys, rice terraces and long, cinematic views at every turn. But what stayed with me most was something quieter, a sense of clarity, of a country that has protected what matters.

Travelling through Bhutan with Six Senses, across Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Paro, each valley revealed a different side of the country. Thimphu felt calm and grounding; Punakha softer and more generous; Gangtey wide, still and deeply moving; Paro the perfect final chapter, culminating in the climb to Tiger’s Nest and a last evening among the stone ruins.

What made the journey so memorable was not only the scenery or the hikes, exhilarating though they were, but the way each lodge felt genuinely rooted in its place, connected to the landscape, the community and the daily rhythms of Bhutanese life.

Bhutan is not just scenic, it is deeply grounded, a country that reveals itself slowly, and all the more powerfully for it."
