Little America is the United Kingdom arm of TravelEssence - a New Zealand and Australia travel specialist that was launched in 2006 by New Zealander, Andrew Morten. From there, Little America was founded in 2018 to craft custom journeys just for you to Canada and the United States. 🦅 Her first bald eagle sighting was only the beginning.

Over six weeks travelling through Oregon, Washington State and Alaska, Ellen had some incredible wildlife encounters. In Denali, she came face to face with a grizzly bear, while moose, otters and plenty more bears also made an appearance along the way.

Travelling independently was important to her, so her travel specialist shaped the route around exactly what she wanted to do. That gave Ellen the freedom to explore at her own pace, walking boots on and camera always close at hand.

🌺 Maui – volcanoes, rainforests and beautiful beaches 🌺

🌋 Maui brings together so much of what makes Hawaii special. Follow the famous Road to Hana through lush rainforest and past waterfalls, watch the sun rise over the volcanic landscape of Haleakalā, then round off the day on one of the island’s beautiful beaches.

🐋 There are plenty of memorable wildlife encounters too. During the winter months, humpback whales migrate through the waters around Maui, and guided trips offer the chance to see them in their natural habitat.

🌴 Our tip? Give yourself plenty of time to explore. Maui is about much more than ticking off the famous sights. Small towns, local restaurants and spontaneous stops along the way can often become some of the most memorable parts of your trip.

🏔️ Beyond the Views

On their journey through Western Canada, Little America guests John, Heather and their friends found themselves doing far more than simply taking in the view.

One day they were soaring over Vancouver Island by seaplane; the next they were out on the water spotting orcas, and later in the trip they took to the mountains, horse riding through Banff National Park before stepping onto the Athabasca Glacier.

For John and Heather, these smaller-scale, locally guided experiences became some of the real highlights of their trip. Travelling the Little America way gave them time to slow down, connect with the places they visited, and come home with stories they’ll be telling for years.

During their three-week road trip through British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies, Little America guests John, Heather and their friends enjoyed some truly memorable wildlife encounters.

From photographing bald eagles on the beach near their Vancouver Island stay to spotting a black bear in the wild, there were plenty of reasons to keep the camera close. But perhaps the most unforgettable moment came during a wildlife and waterways adventure when they saw not one, but two families of orcas.
