See out 2026 beneath the Arctic skies and welcome 2027 from Finnish Lapland.

Your New Year journey begins in Tromsø before crossing into the snowy wilderness of Kilpisjärvi for four nights at Cahkal Boutique Hotel, tucked beneath the fells in one of Finland’s most northerly corners.

Spend your final days of 2026 snowmobiling across frozen landscapes, snowshoeing through the wilderness and meeting the reindeer in Lapland.

Then, as darkness settles in, look upwards for the Northern Lights and a chance to start the new year beneath the aurora.

A very special way to say goodbye to one year and welcome in the new one.

See the first Northern Lights of the season on an autumn Aurora holiday in the Nordics.

As darkness slowly returns to Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, the Aurora begins to appear above forests filled with gold and copper colours, calm lakes and quieter fjords.

With milder evenings, little or no snow and fewer visitors, autumn gives you more freedom to explore. Kayak across still waters, cruise through peaceful Norwegian fjords, forage for seasonal ingredients and enjoy private dinners before stepping outside to watch the sky.

It is also a beautiful time to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or proposal, with quieter locations and more space to make every moment feel personal.

Our specially developed Aurora Buddy app provides real time alerts when the Aurora is visible at your location, helping you head outside at exactly the right moment.

For many travellers, the Northern Lights are associated with deep winter, Christmas escapes and snow covered landscapes. In reality, the aurora season begins much earlier.

From September, darkness returns to the Nordic skies, creating the perfect conditions for Northern Lights viewing while autumn colours sweep across forests, mountains and lakes. Temperatures are often milder, destinations feel quieter and there is still plenty of time to enjoy hiking, photography and wilderness experiences during the day.

September is ideal for combining the Aurora with autumn landscapes.
October brings longer nights and peaceful journeys before the festive season begins.

November introduces a greater chance of snow, alongside husky sledding, reindeer experiences and snowmobiling.

December is wonderfully atmospheric, with authentic festive experiences and classic winter scenery.

From Finnish and Swedish Lapland to Northern Norway and Iceland, early season Northern Lights holidays offer a cooler, calmer and often overlooked way to experience the Arctic.

And because timing matters just as much as location, our CEO Jonny Cooper, better known as Mr Northern Lights, developed the app to provide real time aurora alerts, cloud cover tracking and destination specific forecasts.

Would you choose autumn colours or deep winter snow for your Northern Lights escape?

The countdown is on…

While summer is in full swing across the Nordic countries, we're already looking ahead to one of nature's most spectacular shows.

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year, but it also signals a subtle shift. From this point on, the nights gradually begin to grow darker once again, bringing us ever closer to the return of the Aurora Borealis.

Over the coming weeks, the Arctic skies will slowly reclaim their darkness, and before long, the first autumn auroras will start to dance across the horizon.

There's something special about those first sightings of the season, a reminder that winter adventures, star-filled skies and unforgettable Northern Lights experiences are just around the corner.
