YellowWood Adventures was born from a deep fascination with traditional cultures and the fulfilment that comes from truly authentic travel experiences.

In 2015, our founder, Sam, quit his city job in London and spent three months solo hiking around Ethiopia. He bought eight tents, which he left with local guide Gebre in the Gheralta Mountains in Tigray, built a website to organise small hiking groups to share with people the amazing experiences he had there, and that’s how it all started.

Today, YellowWood has expanded into over twenty countries, but the mission remains the same: to create meaningful travel experiences rooted in adventure, authenticity and connection.

A unique experience in Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬

This traveller went to the World Nomad Games with us in 2024 and this is just some of what she had to say about her experience ⬆️⭐️

The Games are a once-in-a-year spectacle that is not to be missed.

The nomadic people from all across Central Asia and further afield all convened to take part in their traditional nomadic games.

The opening ceremony is a true showstopper. Horses paw the ground, flags fly, men dressed in leather armour, women in flowing medieval gowns. A South African tribe performs a war dance in furs while a Scottish contingent in kilts arrives carrying what look like very heavy cabers. Fireworks are launched, strobe lights flash, music blares and the crowd goes wild.

It is quite simply unmissable.

And in 2026, the World Nomad Games return to Kyrgyzstan.

If you've ever wanted to witness something truly extraordinary, this is it.

Designing a one-of-a-kind Mongolian Adventure as unique as the couple experiencing it… 💛

When Sarah and Jeff - two talented wedding photographers used to capturing other people’s big moments - asked us to create an adventure that was all about them, we knew this had to be something truly special.

They wanted a bespoke tailor-made itinerary that combined authentic cultural immersion with diverse, exciting landscapes that they could explore and capture 📸

So we designed a 10-day itinerary through Mongolia, with a personal Mongolian guide to see their hand-picked highlights.

Every moment was expertly organised from start to finish, but they will be the first to tell you that their favourite parts were often the unscripted, weird and wonderful moments that happened along the way. (You haven't lived until you've ridden a Yak in Mongolia!)
