Anyone can sell you Italy. There are roughly four hundred websites that will do it before lunch.

What is harder to find is somebody who has actually been. Who has driven that road, eaten in that osteria twice to be sure of it, and knows the owner well enough to ask a favour when your flight lands late. That is decades of going back to the same places and paying proper attention, and it is the entire difference between a holiday that is perfectly fine and one you are still talking about years later.

There are places with a very good view, and then there is having an entire island to yourselves.

This one is a lighthouse built in 1873, standing alone on Host Island a few minutes by boat off Vis. It was restored a few years ago into something closer to a beautifully designed yacht than a house, right down to the round windows in the doors. Forty thousand square metres of island, one building, up to ten of you, and nobody else turning up at any point. The sea is the front garden and the nearest crowd is a boat ride away.
