🔎 Organ of the Month: Uterus 🔎 Let’s start with the basic anatomy of the uterus, also known as the womb. There are three component parts to know:

➡️Fundus - the curved top area which connects the fallopian tubes to the uterus
➡️Body - the main part of the uterus which starts directly below the fallopian tubes and continues downward until the uterine walls and cavity begin to narrow
➡️Cervix - the lowest section which opens into the va**na

🔎 Organ of the Month: Heart 🔎 We’ve all heard the saying “to have a big heart” but did you know it’s actually a real thing?! ❤️

All muscles grow with exercise, our hearts included! This enlargement is called hypertrophy. An average adult heart is roughly the size of your fist and weighs around 300g, but an athlete’s heart can weigh over 500g!

However, the heart can also enlarge under strain, such as high blood pressure or faulty heart valves. The hypertrophied heart pictured here weighs 800g and was due to heart muscle disease.

🔎 Organ of the Month: Heart 🔎 Dying of a broken heart isn't just a thing of fairy tales 💔

A break up or the death of a loved one can trigger an avalanche of stress hormones to flood the body. A resilient person may recover within a few days, but if the grief is so overwhelming, a person’s heart can become so stressed to the point of depression and even death. Symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack, but a physical examination won’t uncover any physical findings as you’d expect with a heart attack. The power of love is incredible, isn’t it? 🥺
