Your shoes are taken off you on arrival and handed back on the day you leave 🌴

No news, no shoes is the mantra here, and there is something quietly satisfying about spending a week barefoot. It helps that this was the original all over water resort, so it has had longer than anyone to work out how it should feel.

Forty five over water villas sit on a private island twenty minutes by speedboat from Malé, each with weathered wood, a palm thatched roof and a ladder straight down into the lagoon. There is a roof terrace on top for dining, or for sleeping under the stars.

Every villa comes with a personal Friday, who is the closest thing to a butler who reads minds. Add the Meera spa with its glass floors, films in the open air at the Jungle Cinema, and a resident marine biologist on the reef 🐠

Mykonos Blu

Above Psarou Bay with its own steps down to the sand, which is about as good as a Mykonos address gets 🌊

There are 103 bungalows, suites and villas, all whitewashed and blue in the traditional island style, and 20 of them come with a private pool. The waterfront villas run from one bedroom up to six.

The beach below is one of the best on the island, and the boats moored off it tell you everything about who else has worked that out.

Mykonos town, the windmills and the harbours are a short drive away, and the airport is only twelve minutes from the gate.

Watching turtles nest and hatch on the sand outside your villa, that is a rare thing to have on the doorstep 🐢

Saint Peter's Bay sits on Barbados' west coast, and the stretch of golden sand in front of it is a genuine nesting site. Guests get to see the whole thing up close.

The service is what people talk about afterwards though. There is a full concierge team and a complimentary water taxi, so getting up and down the coast takes no thought at all 🚤

The Gazebo Bar & Grill handles the eating, Caribbean cooking with Mediterranean touches and the ocean right there. The blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich is the one to order.

Sani Asterias looks out over the smart Sani Marina, and beyond the windsurfing, sailing, diving and water-skiing there is an unusual mix of things to try. Sunset cruises too, when you want the day to slow down.

With only 57 suites, it never feels crowded. Each one opens onto a private terrace, and you can have dinner served out there by candlelight if you would rather not share the evening with anyone 🕯️

Then there is the beach, kept for guests only, all soft sand and cushioned loungers with the water lapping just beyond.

Five restaurants, three bars, and one of the most photogenic cocktail spots you will find anywhere 🍸

That would be KOYOKE at Mango House, and it is worth a visit for the setting alone. Elsewhere there is MUSE, where Mediterranean meets Creole, Asian-inspired plates at Azido with its secluded beach view, relaxed poolside bites at SOLEY, and seafood, grills and burgers at MOUTYA.

The location is a real draw too. It sits right on Anse aux Poules Bleues in the south of Mahé, known as the Aquarium of Wonders, so the snorkelling is exceptional straight from the shore 🐠

Between meals there is kayaking, canoeing, a state-of-the-art gym, and a wellness spa looking out over the Indian Ocean.

Kenya Tour 🇰🇪
