Is hotel breakfast worth it? Book the same room twice before you decide. Once room only, once breakfast included. That gap is what the buffet costs you, per person, per morning. Sometimes a fiver. Sometimes thirty.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: "quiet room" isn't a room type. It's a request, and requests get lost between the booking system and the front desk.

Three things that actually help when you book a hotel room:

→ Put the request in the booking notes, not at check-in. Rooms are usually assigned before you walk in.
→ Ask for a high floor away from the lift, the ice machine and the street side. Be specific.
→ Contact the hotel directly the day before and check it's still on your reservation.

The room was £180. The bill was £245.

Found a place that ticked everything — decent area, good reviews, price that fit the budget. Told the group chat it was sorted. Then the payment page loaded: £25 cleaning fee, £18 resort fee, £22 service charge. Same room, same night, £65 more than the number I actually chose from.

The annoying part isn't the money. I'd probably have booked it anyway. It's being told after the decision instead of before it.
