Ordering only Greek salad in Kefalonia would be a tactical error.

Three island specialities deserve a place in your holiday plans:

🥧 Kefalonian meat pie, one of the island’s best-known traditional dishes
🍷 Robola, the local white wine produced from grapes grown on the slopes of Mount Ainos
🌰 Mandoles, Kefalonia’s traditional candied almonds

The sensible approach is meat pie and Robola at dinner, followed by a bag of mandoles for the next day’s sailing... right?

Why does Fiskardo look so different from much of Kefalonia?

When the devastating earthquake of 1953 destroyed large parts of the island, Fiskardo was one of the few places to escape the worst of the damage. Many of its older buildings survived, preserving a part of Kefalonia’s architectural history that was lost elsewhere.

Today, its harbour is lively, elegant and understandably popular with visiting yachts. It is also the third stop on our Kefalonia route, following the sail from Vathi.

There’s something for everyone at Nikiana Beach Club.

There are the watersports, of course. Dinghy sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and more, with lessons for those who want to learn or improve their skills, plus plenty of opportunities to get out on the water and our end-of-week regatta.

Back on shore, there’s the waterfront taverna and a week of social evenings, from Greek nights and BBQs to karaoke.

And if your idea of a good afternoon involves doing absolutely none of the above and lounging on the beach instead? You can do that too.

That’s the beauty of Nikiana. You can make the week as active, social or relaxed as you like. ⛵️

The Corinth Canal may be the moment everyone talks about, but it’s only one part of the journey.

On our Corinth Route, the week begins in Kiato and takes you through the Gulf of Corinth, stopping at Antikyra, historic Galaxidi and the tiny island of Trizonia, with a free-sailing day along the way.

After a stop in Corinth, it’s time for the canal itself. Just over six kilometres later, you emerge into the Saronic Gulf and continue towards our base in Korfos.

For crews combining our Corinth and Saronic routes over two weeks, that short passage marks the transition between two very different sailing areas.

The canal might get the headlines, but we think what comes before and after is pretty special too. ⛵

It took more than 2,000 years for the Corinth Canal to go from a very good idea to reality.

Long before anyone could excavate a six-kilometre channel through the rock, the ancient Greeks had already found another solution. The Diolkos provided a paved route across the Isthmus of Corinth, allowing smaller vessels or their cargo to travel overland. (You can still see what’s left of the Diolkos today, near the modern canal.)

Then, in AD 67, Roman emperor Nero began work on an actual canal. The project was abandoned after his death, and the idea would remain unrealised for centuries.

Construction of the modern Corinth Canal finally began in 1882, with the completed waterway opening in 1893.

Today, we get to sail straight through it.

Quite a lot of history packed into six kilometres. ⛵
