We run 2 charter boats, from Milford Haven around the Pembrokeshire coast to the Celtic Deeps, specialising in reefing, and big game fishing.

TECH UPGRADE 🖥

We thought it was time for an upgrade. We like Simrad so we upgraded the existing system by pairing the Simrad NSS EVO3 with a new Lowrance HDS 16".

The Lowrance HDS 16 gives improved radar capability, enhanced structure scan and down scan, allowing us to get improved definition of where we're fishing.

A new VHF and AIS gives us more visibility when we're offshore for improved safety.

The last thing to do is to set up the tablet to the Lowrance MFD to mirror the screen so our anglers can see what we're fishing over on deck.

We're investing to give our anglers the best experience and enhance safety.

WEST WALES MADNESS 🎣🐟😮🤩

A strong showing offshore yesterday with incredible numbers of fish around with beautiful conditions to head offshore. It was too busy to get decent photos, but hopefully the image of the sounder gives an indication of what was going on. (The red is the bottom, and yes the rest is fish!).

Highlights:

- Wrasse to 4.5lb
- Pollack to low double figures, most in the 4-6lb (with plenty of bigger ones)

Pouting and Sandeel were in the mix as well to for variety. Plenty of wildlife with huge numbers of diving gannets making the most of the bait fish, visits from friendly seals made for a great day on the water.

We have a quick maintenance day today to get the boats ready for some trips to the deeps along with a few trips to the reefs as well 🙂 🎣🐟🦈

DOUBLE TROUBLE

There was a little banter over channel 8 today on the Smalls with Ocean Odyssey and Odyssey.

Despite the bouncy conditions we saw good numbers of fish. Lots of fish caught allowing both crews to have a few fillets each and loads returned. Great to see Sam back out on Ocean Odyssey showing the guys how it's done.

Ryan bagged a new PB Pollack putting a healthy bend into the Ocean Angler Assasin Abyss SPJ rod.

A great day out despite the late rain, hopefully the sun comes back soon.

IT’S NEARLY TIME…

Shark season is nearly upon us and we’ve been busy getting ready for the new season. Rigs have been made, reels serviced, (what feels like) endless chum has been made and Emma Evans has already started to throw down the gauntlet in battle of the boats… rest assured, Luke Evans won’t go down without a fight!

We will be continuing to tag all our sharks for NOAA Fisheries New England/Mid-Atlantic and will be keen to see if we find any more tagged fish on our trips.

WEEKEND HUSS-TLE

It was a busy weekend around the islands and in the haven, enjoying drift fishing and fishing at anchor for species.

Alex and family were the lucky winners of Tide Together Competitions, who travelled from North Cornwall to West Wales for a fishing holiday - hopefully one to remember.

Day 1 saw Odyssey head to the islands for some drifting for Pollack and Wrasse followed by anchoring for Gurnard, and other species. Ocean aimed for the Smalls but the weather didn't match the forecast so the team headed in shore to join the action, some lovely Huss at anchor and Pollack fillets taken home for tea.

Day 2 was made possible by Ocean's stability in 25knt winds, where Luke was set the challenge of putting the crew on double figure Huss. When these beefy guys came in the scales came out, each ranging 13-15lb.

Emma took the helm in grey skies and choppy seas out to the Smalls for a busy day.

Samantha showed us how it's done, quietly bringing several 4 Pollack at a time to the boat. Chay was the man of the species with stunning male and female Wrasse, whilst Mark adapted tactics throughout the day to optimise his catches and Luke grinned reeling Pollack on his Abyss

The Pollack made up for the drizzle for most of the day.

It's great to see so much activity out there with bait balls, birds diving, the number of fish and size increasing on the Smalls.

TUNA FEVER!

There seems to be just a bit of tuna fever spreading over social media. It’s hard not get excited about sunny days and screaming reels. We have been asked by a few people if we got our tuna permit for 2026. The answer to that is no, as currently applications for the welsh bluefin fishery haven’t opened. Successful applicants for the English scheme were notified yesterday. To fish for tuna in welsh waters you will need a welsh permit so when the applications open we will be applying once again.

Successful applicants to the English fishery will be given a list of trainers next week who can provide the face to face training needed as per license conditions. There are 10 in total. Luke Evans is one and the rest are spread over different geographical areas. You can choose whoever suits you best. They will all offer the same training syllabus. There are plenty of dates available so feel free to reach out to any of the trainers who we are sure will be happy help. If Luke can be of any assistance just drop us a line. In the meantime, congratulations to those who got through. Here’s to screaming reels and big smiles this summer.

MAY IS ALMOST HERE!

We can't believe how quick the year is going, and are enjoying the start of the season with serious Wrasse and Pollack fishing action around the islands and Smalls. We're excited for what's next to come!
