🦇 🦇 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮: 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲

🦇 𝐀 𝐒𝐤𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞

Just before dusk, the sky begins to change.

At first, only a few shapes appear.

Then thousands.
Then millions.

Until the horizon is filled with movement.

Each year, between late October and mid-December, an estimated 8–10 million straw-coloured fruit bats (Eidolon helvum) descend upon a small patch of forest in Kasanka National Park.

Arriving from the Congo Basin to feed on seasonal fruits, they create what can only be described as a living, moving cloud.

At dusk, they rise in vast numbers — a swirling “blizzard” of wings against the fading light.

Standing beneath it as the sound builds.
Watching the sky darken with movement.
