St Hilda Sea Adventures Explores Scotland

Issue 1: The Machair

The Machair is a rare and vibrant coastal grassland found along the western islands of Scotland. Formed by wind-blown shell sand, this unique habitat supports a rich tapestry of wildflowers, grasses, and diverse wildlife, including rare birds like the corncrake. It holds deep cultural and historical value, featuring ancient settlements and a landscape that has inspired folklore and poetry. Whether under the soft light of a Hebridean sunset or swept by Atlantic winds, the Machair remains one of Scotland’s most enchanting ecosystems.

Pictures from our recent six night Art Cruise aboard Seahorse II. Alongside painting, guests made their own brushes using natural materials gathered on the islands. Another special moment of voyage was entering the dramatic Fingal’s Cave on Staffa by tender.

The daffodils are out, the lambs are being born, the puffins are returning, the days are getting longer and our winter maintenance is nearly complete. It's soon time to witness the magic of spring in the Hebrides! Our first cruise of the season departs on the 14th April 2026.
