We have received some great news, the award by York CAMRA (campaign for real ale) branch of Town and Country Pub of the Season for Autumn 2026.
This means so much to us as, and is very much appreciated 😊

A great walk from Rosella Luxury Holiday Cottage

Rosedale East Kilns - a proper reminder that this quiet North York Moors landscape was once absolutely alive with industry.

Ironstone extraction began on this side of Rosedale in 1860, with these huge calcining kilns used to roast the ore, driving off impurities and reducing its weight before it was hauled away by rail. Mining finally ended here in 1926, by which point around 11 million tonnes of ironstone had been taken from Rosedale.

Now they sit half swallowed by the moorland, but from the air you can still see the scale of the place - one of the best surviving industrial landscapes in the North York Moors.
