We have many years experience Atlantic Salmon fishing in Scotland and Baltic Salmon fishing in Sweden. Our newest endeavours are going after Sea Trout in Argentina and Sea Run Arctic Char in Greenland which is the ultimate in top water fly fishing!

September in Kangia is something else, the landscape begins to transform to a mottled blend of fiery orange, reds and greens, just like the Char. The incredible contrast of cloudy blue skies and crystal clear blue waters are offset by the first brilliant white snow falls on the mountain peaks.

As the run of fish in Kangia are a little later than others, there are fresh fish still coming in on every tide right through to mid September and these gorgeous coloured fish can be seen clearly in every pool.

While they can sometimes be aggressive to large flies when defending their territory, when they become extremely picky, sight fishing with small sparkly nymphs do the job very well.

Eyes on the prize, 9' #6 is the perfect weapon for chasing char. My favourite set up is a lightly dressed streamer and a small heavy nymph, both help get down to the bigger fish hugging the bottom of the pools, where the often take the nymph.

Sending back a July bar of silver on the tributary stream of Camp North Greenland 🇬🇱🎣

If you are looking for big fresh silver Char there is no better place than Camp North in July, the season runs from early July to end of August, all weeks are good weeks, there are no prime weeks as we don’t push it too early or too late.

However the early season is consistently one of the best times to get the bigger fish before the medium to smaller sized fish also inhabit the river and are quicker to take the fly.

I have chosen the 2nd week in the season to offer the best chance of big fish and good overall numbers in the system, many fresh fish are consistently coming in on every tide also.

2025 has been fully booked for a while, but taking bookings for 2026 now.

A chunky mirror From Camp North in July. These Char over winter in the lakes and rivers, then shoot back out into the fjord during the spring floods for a few months of heavy feeding ready to make the journey back up river during the short but sweet summer season.

It doesn't take long before their bright silver colours transform ahead of spawning, so catching them this bright and gleaming silver is always a hallmark of tide fresh fish from the same day or day after.

Existing in cold harsh environments, Char grow slowly and are a long lived fish, but the genes of the Eqalugsuggsuit river fish are unique from anywhere else in Greenland, these guys put on weight fast with an average weight of around 4-6lb. There also good numbers of 6-10lb fish, while there is every opportunity of catching fish over double figures and well into the teens. It has also been known for fish to reach the 20lb+ mark, though this truly would be the holy grail!

Can't explain it, but these fish are just gorgeous. They are so similar to Salmon and Sea Trout but their markings are just that much more spectacular in my eyes anyway... and those massive fins make them such powerhouses.

You will be hard pushed to find a harder fighting more determined fish to tackle on single hand 5/6 weights, they just don't give up!

By now this silver bullet caught on the main river at Camp North will have transformed into spawning colours, who knows whether it chose the tributary or continued up the main stem, with any luck this guy will complete multiple spawning journeys in the coming years.

Arctic Char are very long lived creatures and Camp North fish do not have to travel far to good feeding grounds at sea, perhaps that is why they grow big and fat fast! In any case I am already counting down the days to 2025!

One of the highlights of this years was introducing my brother to Greenland, fly fishing and Arctic Char. We've been on fishing trips before, but this was the first time he got stuck into it properly. He left with 43 fish for his week and a few heartbreakers along the way 💪🇬🇱🎣 not bad for a newbie.

Here we are both on the last cast of the week with 1 more fish each for the road. Great memories shared together and hopefully more in the future.

There are a few spaces left for Erfalik next year on my week 19th - 28th July.

Camp North 2025 is now full but we are now looking at 2026 if you would like to join.

Finally back home in Cornwall after an amazing 3 weeks in Greenland in Camp North & Erfalik. As always I want to extend my huge thanks to everyone involved in making these trips so special!

My journey has fianlly begun, I’m heading to West Greenland to fish both Camp North & Erfalik for the first leg of Sea Run Arctic Char fishing this year 🇬🇱

For years I have wanted to make my own fly fishing movies and I’ve been incredibly greatful to be involved in others, but this year I am rigged and ready to go to make my first one.

Here is some test footage from my first drone flights, so I’m really excited to see what 3 weeks and 3 rivers will produce at the end of the season… plenty of fish that’s for sure!

First of many. Here is a fly selection box for Erfalik and Camp North in Greenland, going out to one of our guests for our trip in Greenland.

What's the ideal tackle set up for Greenland Char? Easy!

▪️9' #5-7 medium fast or fast action rods ideally with a fighting butt #6 is the best all rounder
▪️Short head WF floating line (float/intermediate for lakes)
▪️9-12ft leaders mono for skating foam flies and fluorocarbon for wet flies. Shorter leaders work best for tighter spots and pockets waters in the rapids and longer leaders for more open waters
▪️Skating foam flies and traditional dries
▪️Light weight sparsely dressed streamers
▪️Heavy weight streamers and leeches
▪️Assorted nymphs

Pictured is my favourite set up 9' #6 fast action single hand rod with a fighting butt, short head floating line, 9ft tapered leader cut down with a micro tippet ring connecting to tippet to make up a 12ft leader and a hot orange or red skating foam fly.

I searched many pools on the Erfalik river last summer with this set up and eventually lost count of the number of fish I caught and the number of memorable fish, but the most memorable of the week was this one.

Hiking for 1 hour to an unnamed and rarely fished small tributary river, I ventured up to the head of the stream and sight fished in a channel of water less than 2m wide and 3m deep, this angry male came up and smashed the foam fly, cart wheeling and taking me down to the backing, it was not really possible to follow the fish so I patiently brought him back up the river, thankfully keeping hold all the way to the net.

Every day on the rivers in Greenland are an adventure with special fish and memorable moments awaiting.

One of the many lovely stretches to cast a line on the Eqalugsugssuit River at Camp North Greenland.

Camp North see's fantastic number of returning fish every season and these fish are real chunks! Eqalugsugssuit River empties into a very large Fjord which we expect is the main feeding grounds for these unique and wonderful fish from this river system, the opportunity for feeding in the Fjord is plentiful and results in faster growing larger fish on average.

If you're looking for a absolute missiles, fishing #5-7 single hand rods, then Camp North is the place for you!

What is the style of fishing like to catch Sea Run Arctic Char?

For me it’s like a perfect blend between Salmon, Sea Trout, River Trout and Stillwater fishing. You can swing flies, skate terrestrials, upstream dries, NZ Style, sight fish nymphs, reservoir style buzzers in the lakes. You can fill you boots with many different tactics and variations of flies morning and night, especially with the midnight sun.

The only questions are when where and how? And can you tempt the big one?

If you enjoy fishing one method or a wide variety of techniques and you’re looking for a place to catch a few in pristine rivers with exceptionally healthy runs of fish, Greenland is without doubt the destination for you!

Beautiful Salmonids, part of the same family as Salmon and Trout, no other freshwater fish are found further North than Atlantic Arctic Char and due to their cold water territories they are old and slow growing fish, a truly big Char could be well into their teenage years before coming back to spawn in the rivers of Greenland.

When they do return a fresh Char from the sea displays the most beautiful colours of silver and turquoise blue, exquisite markings through tiny scales and exceptionally large fins which combined with a much greater skeletal build than Salmon or Trout make them lb for lb (kg for kg) one of the hardest fighting and most formidable fish in their family. The takes can be very aggressive and These fish just do not give up all the way to the net.

For me a bright silver fish fresh from the sea on the fly can not be beat and if you're the same as me then I would look no further than Erfalik or Camp North in Greenland during the month of July. Hundreds to thousands of these beautiful fish start pouring into the rivers on ever tide daily and begin to stack up from the top of the river valley all the way down the system including the lakes. When you hook them you better hold on!!
