Its been a hectic week guiding on our Yorkshire Coast Nature Seabirds & Whale trips and I thought we were doing really well for sightings then boom today it got even better when I found a Great Shearwater sitting on the sea by our boat. I had to tear everyone away from the 12 Minke Whales & 5 Sooty Shearwaters. It was very exciting moment.

This is now the third year in succession we have had a Great Shearwater from our boat trips. Great Shearwaters are scarce birds on the Yorkshire coast. Todays trip ended with 25 Bottlenose Dolphins. You could say it was a bit of a classic!

On the 31 August two days ago we photographed a Minke Whale with a very distinctive dorsal fin on our Yorkshire Coast Nature Seabird & Whale trip from Staithes. Further research in our Minke Whale fin catalogue has turned up a big hit!

On our way back to Staithes yesterday evening on our Yorkshire Coast Nature Seabird & Whale boat trip I found a group of Little Gulls and a juvenile Black Tern feeding with Common Terns and Kittiwakes on an area of spawning Herring. A beautiful sight as they all hovered over the water dropping in to pick up the tiny fish and eggs at the surface

Cetaceans were literally everywhere yesterday on our Yorkshire Coast Nature Seabird & Whale trip! Barely a break in the action and we had some great seabird action too! Arctic Skua, Guillemots, Razorbills, Minke Whales & Bottlenose Dolphins in the photo set. Big thanks as always to our highly skilled skipper Sean Baxter
