Heritage Open Days starts tomorrow and runs until 20 September. There are 116 events on in Sheffield alone, with history walks, access to buildings that aren't normally open to the public, talks and tours.

I'll be running tours of Kelham Island and around Yellow Arch Studios (although these are fully booked) and I'll be helping out with walks around Attercliffe and Sandygate/Carsick. But there's also many more places where you can just turn up on the day, which is what I'll be doing as well.

The Ship is one of the stops on my Kelham Island walking tour, not only does it have amazing tiles, it also has a fascinating story from the Sheffield flood of 1864, oh, and it also has the only ghost story on the tour. Plus, it's a great pub. What more could you want?

The plaque everyone stops to read so thought we'd share....🪧

"During the Sheffield flood 11th March 1864 two seamen drowned without trace in the secret tunnels beneath the Inn. These tunnels led to the river and sightings of a ghost is believed to be that of one of these men"

That being said...come have a pint with a ghost....👻🍺

There's still places left for tomorrow's history walk of Neepsend starting at 11am outside the Gardener's Rest pub, tickets are £10. More details and booking links in the bio.

One of the landmarks of Neepsend, included in the walk, is the old Stones Brewery. The site is currently being redeveloped by . It's not just the well known Cannon Brewery site that's part of the history of William Stones in Neepsend. There's a couple of other buildings still standing that form part of the story, as shown in these images.

If you know who did the Stones bitter street art on the corner of Rutland Road and Boyland Street then do credit them in the comments.

If you've ever wondered why there's a bridge to nowhere sandwiched between the two lanes of the ring road at Bridgehouses, then worry no more.

Hidden Sheffield Walks and Wobbly Runner Exploring have done a video that tells you all about it. And if you are interested in volunteering to help keep it s***k and span (span, it's a bridge, see what I did there) then The Friends of Bridgehouses Footbridge have some volunteering sessions coming up

If you've enjoyed walking tours around Kelham Island and Neepsend, then the local community group Kelham Island and Neepsend Community Alliance is one of the reasons the area is so good. They're currently fundraising to support their activities so do donate if you can.

It's gearing up to be another beautiful day in Kelham Island. And I'm getting ready for another history walking tour of the area starting at Kelham Island Museum (as I always remind people, it's free entry to the museum these days so make sure you include that in a visit to the area) and I have my obligatory pre-walk coffee from .
