Another fantastic year for the Solihull Bikeability team, Solihull has been recognised as one of the top-performing local authorities, with 86% of Year 5 pupils taking part. Thanks to our schools and instructors for supporting our busy service to reach so many children 🚴🚴🚴🙌

📢 More than 6 million children have now been trained through Bikeability!

Our 2025–26 delivery figures are here, and it has been another record-breaking year for the national cycle training programme.

This year, Bikeability delivered:
✅ 524,545 training places to children across England
✅ More than 6,000 cycles made available through fleet cycles, Get Cycling in Schools and partners
✅ 595 tonnes of CO₂e saved through Bikeability training days

A huge thank you to every instructor, school, local authority, parent, partner and supporter who helped make this possible.

A special congratulations to our top-performing Local Highway Authorities for reach of Year 6 children taking part in Bikeability training:

🚴‍♀️ Another fantastic Bikeability success story!

Congratulations to the Year 6 pupils at St George and St Teresa Catholic Primary School who completed their Bikeability Level 3 training earlier in June. The group showed great focus, confidence and road awareness while cycling on challenging routes.

Our instructors were incredibly impressed with the pupils' attitude and commitment throughout the session.

Well done to all involved! 👏

🚲 Congratulations to Year 6 on passing Level 3 Bikeability today! 🌟

💪 They went on a 2 hour cycle ride along some very tricky roads, including 40mph, roundabouts and more!

🌟 The instructors commented on how focused, well-behaved and confident the children were.

This summer, we're launching , a nationwide campaign bringing together bike shops and cycling clubs across the UK to help get unused bikes back on the road, making it easier for more people to save money on everyday journeys.

☀️ Cycle Training Update & Reminder 🚲
Due to the extreme heat this week, some sessions had to be cancelled. While we made adjustments where possible, cancelling was the safest decision for everyone.

The good news ✅ temperatures are expected to return to safer levels next week, and our team has been working hard behind the scenes to prepare.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents – please check you’re ready:
• Bike in good working order (brakes, tyres, gears)
• Helmet fitted correctly
• Suitable clothing for the weather
• Drinks and snacks to stay fuelled

Looking for a fun, active way to build confidence this summer? Our Bikeability sessions are a great way for children to learn an essential life skill while having fun outdoors.

We’ve got sessions for different age groups:
👶 Ages 5–7 (Learn to Ride)
📍 North Solihull Sports Centre Athletics Track
Perfect for beginners who want to gain that first taste of cycling independence — with bikes and helmets provided.

🚴 Age 8+ (Learn to Ride & Cycle Confidence)
📍 Tudor Grange Cycle Track
Ideal for complete beginners those wanting to build skills or new riders who would like a confidence boost. (Limited bikes available to borrow.)

🚲 It’s been a busy few weeks for the Bikeability team!
🚲 Back in the saddle!
Since May half term, our Bikeability team has been busy helping young riders build confidence — and even dodging the showers along the way 🌦️

We also received some really lovely feedback — including this from a parent (and local headteacher):

💬 “Just wanted to say my 7 yr old really enjoyed the cycle sessions last Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Jackie was fantastic with my son on Wednesday and it was amazing seeing how confident he became to cycle independently. I’m the headteacher at Cheswick Green so I’ll continue sharing these sessions with our families and my children always enjoy Bikeability at school.”

🚴‍♂️ Is your child cycle training ready?
We’re really excited to be visiting schools after half term, and we can’t wait to get more children riding with confidence! 🙌

To help your child get the most out of their session, here are a few quick tips to practise over the break:

✅ Get some practice in
Even a short ride at the park can make a big difference to confidence

✅ Check the bike together
• Brakes working properly
• Tyres pumped up
• Gears (if they have them) working smoothly
• Helmet fits correctly

✅ Be prepared on the day
• Comfortable clothes (and layers if it’s chilly)
• A drink and a snack

💚 A little preparation now can make a huge difference when our instructors arrive!
