Ever wondered why England has so many places called “Chipping,” such as:

Chipping Campden
Chipping Norton
Chipping Sodbury

“Chipping” comes from the Old English word ċēping, which was related to buying, selling, and trading essentially meaning “market.”

So, Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton, and Chipping Sodbury were historically market towns.
